WOW! Great craftsmanship Chris, love the look of raw stainless
and welds. Perfect fit for Gretta. ;D

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

amazing pipes chris!

motofiaccone really does some amazing work... i have to say...

also the signature etching is just the tits!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks guys! I'm anxious to get the pipes in Kiley's hands because I want to make sure he likes them. I think he'll be happy with them, but you never know...

Thanks for the kind words on the craftsmanship. I really pride myself on the quality of the craft. So when when you guys compliment, it feels good.

Kiley's a cool cat. I love working with southern boys because everyone of them are authentic people--at least the ones I've met. I have a lot of respect for that.

I might express ship the pipes so I can see what they look like on the bike.

Man - I have to say, I just spent the last hour or so reading this thread. Amazing build and creativity! Loving the bike.

This is my first post on here, so I don't want to step on any toes, but here is my $0.02 for what it's worth:

As far as a dash light solution, maybe do what Honda did on several of their bikes. I have a 96 Magna, with all the lights you are using sunk in the machined triple tree. I can't find a good pic, and the bike is not here right now, but here is another Honda that illustrates the concept:

It even keeps the solution sort of "Honda Like" ;)

As far as the key switch, I know you already did the wiring for that location, but it could be hidden cleanly, and still easily accessible in either of the locations indicated on the arrows.

At least now I don't feel like a complete voyeur and can follow along guiltlessly ;D

Keep up the amazing work. I am getting inspired!

I've been on forums (and motorycycles) pretty much forever ;D (Yamahaenduro.com. Planetminis.com, ADVrider.com, valkyrieforum.com and many others.

Always been interested in Cafe bikes, but never done one. Been lurking on here for a long time, and now that it is winter and raining in the Northwest, I have some time to kill in front of the computer. A lot of real talent on the board.

Thanks for the welcome!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

okay fellas, sorry it has been so long...life was a swamp there for a while! but, say hello to the newest CCEMT-P! That's a title for a critical care certified Paramedic. What that means is that I'm going to the big blue....Chasing a dream of being a flight medic....and now I'm certified.

In other news, the bike hasn't set idly by. It have worked on it a good bit since my last post. The headlight bucket came in today, and thank god everything is fitting up so far. The only issue I am having is finding a light to fit it. If anyone has any info, that would be much appreciated. Preferably something with a replaceable bulb such as an H4. The measurement of where the bulb will seat is 120mm exactly...0r 4.75 inches. I have a feeling I'm going to have to end up making my own.....

Makoto, it's funny you showed those pics, because that's in a nutshell exactly what I ended up doing.

I recessed the neutral and on indicators into the old handlebar mounts using a plug from Lowe's kind of like Troy did. I drilled out a hole for the light and then siliconed the plugs into the tree. Nice and clean.

The high beam indicator is in the factory hole in the bucket. The headlight switch is also in the bucket. The gauge I got fits perfectly. I got some stainless steel spacers from the hardware store to fit the bucket since it is significantly narrower than the 8" that I had on there. I also flipped the ears on the trees to raise the light up in order to be able to see the tach. I was worried it would look weird, but it follows the tank line on top nicely. What do you guys think?

I also lengthened a spare kick stand by 2" to accommodate for the raised suspension due to the monoshock. Now it doesn't look like it is on its way to the ground when it's resting on the stand.

I cut the stock shift lever arm off and fabbed up a small bracket to go on it to attach the rearset shift linkage to. I then threaded a piece of 1/4" rod stock and put heim joints on the ends for the linkage. I then gave it a good coat of black epoxy (except for the threads).

I wire wheeled the tag plate down to metal again and welded on a tab for the badass tag light that Troybilt gave me (thanks brother!!!). It looks great on there.

All wiring is finished, and the MotoFiaccone exhaust will be here Wednesday. I started work on the upholstery pan today, and will be foaming it up soon to take down to the upholstery shop and get wrapped in something cool.

I'm still waiting on the carbs, but they'll be here soon. Ahh...so close!

So lemme know what you guys think, and I'll be back till the end now....school is finished!!!!

The tag light installed and painted:

An idea for the key switch...Don't know if I like it or not. Cut and bent out of Lexan..thoughts?:

The headlight:

Mounted. Think it looks good at that level? I think it fits.

So tomorrow I paint the bucket and get the wiring into it. I bought an HID conversion kit for h4 bulbs, so I've got to tackle that headlight! I'm going to finish the seat upholstery pan and then foam it up. Hopefully take it to the shop to get done. Then just continue tackling the bits and pieces to make it run. Hope you guys dig it, and we'll see ya tomorrow!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

man everything looks great! the only thing that i would say is that it is MUCH too small for the front of that bike... almost looks out of place with how small it is... if anything i would try and put that as high as possible so that it flows a bit better with the top of the bike, or maybe make the supports for the lamp thicker that may help to beef it up. coming along great!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

First off, congrats on the certification. The bike is coming along great.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I personally like it. Stretches her out and makes her look faster while parked. Adds visual velocity. The indicators look supa-clean, very good choice.

Oh and congrats on finising up school. I know a few wing-meds back home, and they are a cool breed. Good luck on landing a spot!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks for the congrats guys! It is a relief...that was the hardest class I've ever been through....way harded than medic school itself!

And JRK, I thought it might be too small too, but honestly, I like the way it looks. It's sleek. It's definitely different than the other bucket, but I think it's cool. I don't want to raise it too high, if anything it may need dropped down about a half inch to even up with the tank's top line. I have a bezel with a built in visor that I'll be using on it that will beef it up a bit. Right now I'm digging it. but that's just me. Thanks for your props and your opinion!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

as I expressed earlier in the thread, I typically hate the speed/tach headlight combos. However I think it really looks good on your bike. I actually like the size of it. Ive seen similar buckets on other bikes, and Im not sure if the bike is always smaller or if the bucket is always bigger, but it makes the thing look like an elephant. On your bike I think its perfect, I like exactly where it is too.

edit: I also normally dont like the ears turned upside down, but again it really works with this bucket on this bike.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks boom, I agree with everything you said. And I was kinda dreading your response because of your expressed disdain for these buckets, so what a pleasant suprise! :D ;)

Just kidding brother.

And yeah, I had to flip the ears that I'm using to get the elevation that I needed. the other way the tach was too low to see due to how aggressive the stance on this bike is. I think it works too, but I have considered talking to Mysta about getting some custom ones machined.

Thanks dude!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I disagree with JRK on this one. I love the light. Just check your bucket mounting brackets, the light seemed crooked in one of those shots, though it may just be the camera angle.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Yeah, it's not tightened down yet staffy. Everything's loose for mockup since I'll have to tear it back down for paint. Thanks for the heads up! Don't want to be going down the road cockeyed!

And thanks for the props!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thought that may be the case. Keep it up. looks great.
