Hey Kiley,
I guess we are not showing the love because right now it doesn't fit the top notch craftsmanship of the rest of the bike. Take that as a compliment for what you've accomplished so far on this build. It is just outstanding! Here is a thought. In the photos it might look out of place because... it actually is(meaning that it is not in its final resting place)?
Are you using the riser mounts to mount the dash? That is where it looks like it was made for. If so put it in place and let us see what it looks like. That might make a big difference.
Also, if you are considering changing it you might first put this one on a diet and make it a little more form fitting?? Gotta like a girl with curves. ;D Maybe laydown some engraving work and treat it as though it is an important show piece on the bike . Just some thoughts brother. In the end do what makes you happy. After all it is already and awesome bike!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Dont remember where I read it (I think SOHC4.net?)
Somone posted not to ground body of regulator direct to frame or it will burn out.
Needs to be rubber mounted and ground through green wire.
I havent found internal wiring diagram so can't verify its correct but original post was from someone I trust on electrical issues

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks pj. It's had to tell it from the picure but the screws holding the reg to the frame are rubber mounted. Thy have rubber bushings that the screws go through on the body of the reg. Hen it has it's own ground wire going to the frame. Thanks for the tip.

Heavy metal!! lol, suprised no one else noticed the left hand yet!!!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

oh! I noticed, but thats how I feel every time something I did works! Then followed by the solo air guitar!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I agree that the dash should be all but invisible on this bike. I pulled this from the $50 mod thread. something like this would look great and you could modify it to add the ignition.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Haha! Solo air gutar! Yes!

I was gonna let you guys know that I came up with a solution for the dash situation. It's simple and elegant I think. I'll post pics tomorrow. The more I looked at it, the more it stuck out, so I have to thank you all for your input!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I have a nice sheet of prepreg carbon if you're interested. I could throw a small piece in the box with your exhaust if you're interested. It's the same stuff I used on the dash of my RD400 bike. Txt me tonight and let me know.

Dunno how I missed/lost track of this one! Too cool!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey, nice work on the seat support...hell, the whole lot! This is sure going to be something.

One thing with the dash - and I don't think its the fact that its there, so much. I think its the shape. I'm not sure, but it seems to demand attention, something about it draws your eyes to it a fair bit. I did a crude photoshop of what you could make it into with a semi-circular cut and an quick bit of lettering. Hope you don't mind:

Whaddaya reckon?

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Oh yeah, that would really clean her up Boink.

What I ended up doing is very minimalist, but I've been witholding the pics until the headlight bucket comes in. It is an essential piece that will have to be installed to make it all come together...right now it looks like a bunch of wires thrown together.

Tonight I bent the kick lever slightly to clear the rearsets. I also had to take the valve cover off as I had the cam shaft installed 180 degrees off.. I only noticed it when I went to try the kick lever and it went "clunk!!" like the motor was just seized....PITA. But it's done now....that took an unnecessary hour out of my life ::).

Hopefully that bucket gets here tomorrow...

And guys, anything you wanna play around with like Boingk did...awesome! That would look much better should I go that route.

I've got my final exam Friday, so I really need to be pouring over books....you see where I am. :-X

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I've been eyeing those buckets. They are so sweet. I think it will really set Gretta off. do I remember you saying that the exhaust might get there as soon as this Friday? I can't wait. If you don't get the time to bolt that baby up just give me a ring and I'll be right down ;) LOL.
Just keep hitting the books my friend, the bike (s) will be here there when you are ready. We'll keep the thread warm for ya ;D.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I was supposed to ship the exhaust this Friday. Give me a couple hours and I'll post up pics. I'm really happy with the way it came out.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Awesome. Can't wait to see it Chris!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Sorry for the delay. OK, I first what to thank Kit for letting me use his bike as a template. Anyone that knows him on a personal level knows how generous he is. It's incredible. Also, I really appreciate Kiley letting me contribute to this project. This exhaust cost him a pretty penny, and he could have used a number of supplies. I'm flattered he chose MotoFiaccone. He was also incredibly patient through the process because there were a number of delays. That said...

First, because Gretta had so many modifications to the frame, it is difficult to determine how to mount the exhaust. I really don't like customers welding on my work, so it put us in a quandary. Plus, I took so long building the thing, Kiley decided to paint her. What I came up with is a 2" strip of stainless. Kiley will have to bend, drill and finish as required.

And, the finished product. Kiley wanted a 2-2 with dual reverse cone megaphone--unsilenced. Here is the shape we determined:

A close-up shot of the precision welds.

A shot down the bike.

Brand mark on each side.

And from the rear. The left side looks tweeked a bit because the mount is resting on the frame. Kiley will have to bend it to his needs, so ultimately, the exhaust are perfectly lever with one another. Since his bike is so long and lean, I wanted to add some width out back.

Sorry for the crap photos, I had to do them in haste. This is shipping tomorrow; I hope you like the final results. If anyone else is interested in a bespoke exhaust, click the banner to the left and contact me.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Nice, that exhaust is going to fit the bike perfect, worth every penny I bet. Can't wait to see what it looks like on Gretta.

Nice work both of you.

Maritime.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

On that note, I have a few things I'd like to say too.

Chris is your guy if you ever need any work done on your bike. Every single aspect of this creation was done with such detail, you can call him nothing but an artist. There wasn't a decision made that didn't involve him contacting me personally and running it by me. He never made a decision with the exhaust without telling me what he was thinking and why. There were several hours of discussion spent talking aesthetics and engineering. This all started with me sending him a random pic from the internet and running it by Chris. He took it from there and applied his knowledge of the craft to create something completely custom to sui my bike specifically. Just so you guys know, this entire exhaust probably weighs about as much as one stock 360 muffler. It is all stainless steel construction so no more corrosion, and it is light! It is TIG welded and Purge welded also to give it the absolute highest level of flow to let the motor breathe. When you buy one of his exhausts, it is an instant improvement on the performance of your bike. If you spend all of the time in the world lightening your bike by cutting off the superfluous bits like mounting tabs, etc, then this is the next logical step.

I hate to sound like a business advertisement, but I could spend all day talking about how smooth this process has been and how happy I am with the result. It is absolutely worth every penny! Amazing job Chris, you're a stand up guy!

And I'd also like to thank Kit for loaning loudbike to Chris for the construction. He made the entire process so much easier by having an available template to actually help make decisions based on placement and aesthetics. It couldn't have been done without him.

And also, thanks for the compliments brother. You're a great guy and look forward to working with you on Oilslinger...that will be fun!

Amazing exhaust. Can't wait to let it rip!!!!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
