Project"Independent" CL450

I just want to get some for the polished covers, would be a great red accent for the engine. Any news on the list?
Cheers.

JR

Here is what i ordered for the side covers....
Right side cover---2 M6/35mm
6 M6/25mm

Left side cover----3 M6/35mm
3 M6/25mm

Sprocket cover---2 M6/60mm
2 M6/25mm

Order a 10 pack +1 of 25mm, 5 pack of 35mm, and 2 60mm to make it a little easier. Sorry for the delay, hope this helps!
Cheers,

Mike

Bike looks great. Was that the first time lacing a wheel, was it a big deal or just more of a pain in the ass job. did you stay with stock rims or change size. I purchased a 74 cl450 for the burning river build off here in Cleveland. The rules state you cannot out source any work so I am trying to decide if I want to take wheels apart or do a whole lot of masking.

Definetly take them apart! It wasn't that big of a deal or a pain in the ass. I used my stock rims since the had the cool DID stamp in them.
Lay everything out and take your time, the first one will take a little while, but once you get the hang of it, it's a piece o' cake. Take a bunch of pictures of each wheel before you take them apart.

This thing is looking killer.... been following since you first posted, we are building very similar cl450's! I was wondering what kind of spray paint you are using for that red?

Did it really cost you over $100 for just those bolts? :p

JR,
I ordered fasteners for the whole engine, so that is where the $100 number came from. Just the side cover fasteners should be about $20 plus shipping??

Thanks!!! I am using Dupli-Color, GM Dark Cherry Metallic.
Good luck on your build, Mike

I LOVE the way this build is going. Your attention to detail is awesome man. I've been tossing the idea around for a while on a probolts order myself, and I may just do it now for my cb750. Ive even been keeping an eye out for a 450 for my next build. I cant say enough how cool your build is. Freakin awesome! And @ scrambeemer: yes, definetly tear the wheels down. Its not hard to relace at all. In fact, I've got a fixture I made in my build thread that made it easier, and there's a million different ways to do the same thing using household stuff. The finished product is well worth the time.

Got my tires, tubes and rim strips from Dennis Kirk on Friday. I am sure this is no great revelation, but they are AWESOME! Great prices, Great service and insanely fast shipping. Anyways here's what i got done last weekend....

You got it man, i hoping to have this thing done by the VJMC show the weekend before Labor day! I am sure you'll get her figured out and on the road in no time.

Great! Yeah I sure hope so...its been three days and about a total of 8-10 hours (I started drinking after the second day...so I'm not sure how many hours total I've spent on it I guess...) of taking the valve cover off, checking and re-checking timing was right on the cams, a few carb cleanings and now I'm tackling wiring UGH. haha. Keep going on yours so I can live vicariously through you.

Re: Project"Independent" CL450(Not just a pile of parts anymore!)

I got the frame back from powder on Monday! The past few nights I have been busy turning a pile of parts into something that resembles a bike. The easy stuff is done, now comes the hard part making it run again.

Loving the progress man! You've done a really good job of getting hints of red here and there without it becoming to overwhelming. Keep it up!! :D
