Project " Twisted Metal " two stroke

I love this. I want to do the same for my next project with a Maico 490 or a cr or kx 500 mill. I like the new seat, but I have to say I like the tank you had on there in the first set of pics better.

Hey, looks great. Not to jack your thread over to a welding tutorial but what kind of rig are you using to weld that aluminum?

As far as the tank are you talking about the blue or silver one/ I am pretty up in the air about the tank, dont know what style to use.......I am waiting for the bike to tell me what it wants. All of the fab so far is steel, I have not started the aluminum yet.....Steel is cheeper and since I will most likely fab up a few styles untill I find what I want I start with steel then I will make templates and build with aluminum...I use a Hobart 140 mig and I am set up for mild steel, stainless and aluminum......Cafe Freak

Silver tank all of the way...or better yet, build one! What is that silver tank off of?

Awesome build! I have been iterested in the banshee motor swap into a bike, a friend of mine mentioned it in conversation once, and it had been on my mind since. I can't wait to see more. If you don't use that silver tank, let me know if you want to sell it, it would be perfect for my current build, Eileen!

Cheers,
Brandon

Thanks for the kind words, I think you all are talking about this tank......Oh shit ..I put the swingarm on upside down........OOOOOOh the insanity.....Cafe Freak

Reverse Monoshock, its just a mockup, final parts will be of much higher quality. This is just to prove the Theory and figure out the geometry. Keep in mind when the chambers are on the bike with a small lower chin fairing you will not be able to see the shock, ......As far as the tank, it came from a racer in upper Wisconsin and I do not know who the maker is Maybee Dunstall but then who knows....Cafe Freak

I like the other way better. I like the idea of the reverse mono but I like the look of the triangulated mono better. And in my opinion I think the tail of the bike is too high and jacked up. Kinda looks like a German streetfighter. Just my opinions looks good either way.

If you are going with the reverse mono, look into the mid 90's buel XB's and XA's, the have a reverse mono setup that is offset to one side anf the exhaust can on the other! You could tuck both in your belly pan, or just use that damper and spring.

That is the tank I was speaking of, I saw where you had said (early in this thread) that you would be fabing your own aluminum tank, so I thought if you were not using it you may want to sell it. So, do you? Please PM me if you are, I would really like to have one like that!

Twistedwheels, thanks for the Buel info, I may have to use the shock from one. I have less room underneath inbetween the pipes than expected....Do you know if the Buel shock is a pull type or if it has direction changing linkage?.. As for the glass tank I think I will keep ahold of it for now as you know they are kind of hard to come by pluss I have more frames hanging so it may end up on a bike yet...Pipes are Trinity Banshee drag pipes and I had to mod them and change the angle to fit a streetbike. Fabbed up the tank to look like an early TZ style and the space in front will allow for room on both sides foe scoops to feed fresh cool air to the carbs.....Thompson, I still have to lower the bike but I have to wait untill it can be fully weighted so I can be sure of ground clearance but I agree it is high. Keep in mind it is still in mockup and I have a LOOOOOOONG way to go so it may not even yook like this when its done......Cafe Freak

I love what your doing with this, how are you shaping the metal for your tank....just tacking and shaping as you go ? The top edge looks to be rounded, hammered or ?

The Buell uses a linkage.

The only tension shocks I've come accross are HD softy shocks, it's what I used for my current build ( aftermarket small diameter versions, 2" OD ) I'd stay away from them for your build as they are non adjustable and I doubt they would be the hot setup for handling. These are setup for a 650lbs bike using 2 shocks, mine is around 400lbs so its stiff, but going with only one makes it insanely soft...again they are non adjustable so ?

Thanks, I was hoping the Buell had a straight pull type, more thinking to do...Most of the shaping is on the knee and tack and form but the top is is hammer and dolly formed for a rolled edge....As for the welder it is a Hobart 140 mig running innershield/ fluxcore wire . I prefer gass shield but my bottle is for aluminum and it splatters alot with solid wire......Cafe Freak
