Don't have to convince me man, that bike looks killer!

I agree. Just wondering why you didn't continue the stripes parallel down to the tail light Steve? Seems like it would have matched pretty close to the width of that unit? Not that it matters - bike is still shit-hot ;)

That was the plan but with the seat curving in every direction and the width of the stripes there was no way it was going to happen without stretching the crap out of them and distorting them. This was really the only easy option ;D

I've never been a huge fan of these bikes, that is until now. Looks awesome!

Funny, when I was looking for a bike in the early 90's these were on my list as I wanted something cheap, but it was just too ugly for me, or so I thought. Now I watch out for them on ebay as I want another so I can build a bobber :)

Took some better pics so I'll add one more while I'm here.

lookin' mighty fine Steve. I reckon I'd paint that battery black to disappear it. Lovin' that orange a lot. Looks a lot like the XR5 Electric Orange I'm using for my build ;)

That's a bigger battery than I previously had so the battery box I made before no longer fits. I'll make another shortly to hide the battery again and hold it in ;)

Nice looking bike man!
Theres a CX500 a couple of blocks away from me. Its parked on the street with expired tags. I've seen it in the same spot for the last three months and looks like its been there longer. I might just go over there and try to find out who it belogs to and get it of their hands ;D.
Great build though.

Got some video a little while ago, mate dropped it off today. It's not the best but you get the idea, I really like the slammed look of the bike :)

Fooookin' sweet ... it is one thing to post up pics but another to see this bad boy in action. Great work ... I have been watching your build for awhile and have to say definitely not ratty anymore. Great job!!

Put the CX badges on, these were on the side covers but I liked the look of them so decided to put them on the tank.

And one more of the paint as I just really like it and cant believe how well it came up :) Still need to polish it :)

Leave it for now it gives i8t the vintage look... you can always do it later. Great job.

This bike is AWESOME. I wouldn't change a thing. Black and orange always look so good together. I think these are the colors I will use.

Congrats on a great build.

Thanks for the comments guys, did a little more today, moved the pegs back slightly as a quick test for positioning of rearsets, also organised another brake and gear change peddle from Staffy so I can chop them for the rearsets. Just need to pay him and organise to get them posted :)

Been a while but got the bug to make some more changes, bought some of those RFY shocks off of ebay, they work really well for the bikes weight and I'm impressed with the performance even out of the box. Also rebuilt the front forks with fresh oil and seals and added some preload and dropped them through the triple trees a bit. Also plan on cutting the battery tray and dropping the battery down closer to the swing arm so I have some room above the battery for a leather tool bag, not really for tools but for the camera and wallet etc, I hate stuffing all that stuff in my pockets and if I can get away without a back pack I will :) I think it'll look OK there as well.

Anyway, some pics.

No clipons in these two pics, still has the clubmans

And the clipons, looks better and moves the bars back a bit, suits my poor old back a bit better as I can sit more upright if I need too ;)

Just clears the tank. Next step is to move the ignition to the side under the tank and the fuse box under there as well, or under the seat pod. Then I might get the old bar mounts machined off to get a better look.

Hey,
Recently got my first bike, happened to be a cx500c. I think your build is one of the best looking builds I've seen, and hope to use it as a template(When I get the time).
I was wonder what the specs of the clipons are?(size, make, where you got them?)
