I just used the smallest nozzle since it is quite a fine media compared to sand. Didn't seem to make much difference though, the main thing was using the steel tube on the end of the rubber one and occasionally taking the whole thing apart and unclogging it especially if ti was humid out.
Drilled discs are on, it was a spur of the moment thing but since I had a spare 1/2 hr I decided to swap them over, now to get some new pads and the braided lines 8)
Some small things done and more bits and pieces on the way.
Decided it was time to do something about the battery being held in by a bungy cord. I took the original mount that was on the airbox and cut it down and modified it to take a strap. I then pop riveted this to the frame through an exisitng hole, I'll weld it later when I know it's in the right spot. Then to tidy the battery up a bit I took some thin a alloy sheet and folded up a cover and then gave it a bit of a polish, it's purely for looks but it does the job (rolled the top to remove the sharp edge and give it some strength)
Also got my black braided brake lines from a member on the Aus CX forum, it's great owning a bike with what borders on a cult following, everyone is happy to help and will do what they can to keep them on the road as cheap as possible. The lines were about 1/2 RRP and comparable with non australian approved ebay lines (these are all legal).
A pic of the battery mount/cover.
I'm getting down to the basic stuff now with new coils coming and even a tank bag for my first big trip (600km in a day should be fun)
Put in new coils/leads, plug caps and plugs and made a quick video with my cheap helmet cam. It's much smoother with the new electricals and even sounds better so I can only guess it was missing a little before and not getting good combustion. Seat of the pants it feels like more power.
Finally decided to fit my aftermarket water temp gauge, I got it from ebay and picked one that matched the same lines as the Acewell gauge and that also lit up in blue like the acewell. The only hassle was it used a 1/8NPT sender and the CX uses a larger, not so common size. First I was going to tap the thermostat housing and install the new sender but it is quite thin and there isn't a lot of room around it for the sender to stick out so the options were minimal. Then I decided to turn the old sender into an adapter, I had a spare so cut the top and bottom off, pulled the guts out, drilled it and tapped it for a 1/8NPT thread. Now pretty much any gauge can be used as the 1/8NPT is a very common sender size.
Here's a couple of pics comparing my unmolested stock sender and one converted to an adapter.
I used the indentation in the top to moung an o ring to help seal the new sender after it's screwed in to this now adapter
And the gauge, works well, looks like it's pretty water proof and if not easily made so with a bit of sealant. Great to finally have a temp gauge back again.
This pic gives a better idea of size, or lack of. The temp gauge has the silver trim ring at the moment, I'll probably paint it black to match the Acewell.
lookin sweet, this bike inspired me to open my horizon about what sort of bike i was loooking to buy.
a guy was selling a running cx for 500 bucks but some one offer him 700 to hold it and i found my cb550 the next day. this was august.
i bumped into a guy who was telling me he liked my bike and how a hjc helmet saved his life and how he sold a cx a while back.
it was the same guy i talked to on the phone and he rides with my buddies the leather ass crew. they are headed down to charleston with a motley crew (about 6 hours)
also i dont know if i have commented before but the bike looks great and sounds great also.
if that helmet cam is so shitty just send it to me when you get your new one, i would love to have it for snowboarding and bike riding videos,
ill even spring for the international shipping.
Been a while as I've been busy riding it but since our short mild winter is here I thought it was time to finish it off and get some paint on the tank, seat and headlight bucket. I've been building up my Jeep so have had no time, luckily a mate offered to paint it for me so even though I normally do all this myself I jumped at it.
He sent me a couple of pics of the tank, 36 dents of different sizes in it after it was sanded back :-\
Tank, seat and headlight shell have had hours and hours (probably days) of work and have now got a base coat of gloss white ready for the top coat of a different colour tomorrow
Thanks, only problem is I think the rest of the bike will need some work and possibly some colour change, I'm thinking gunmetal will look good with this.
