rebuild issue with carbs and airbox

Im not sure how to start this thread nor if my language is good enough to explain what is going on.

I decided 3 months ago that i want to rebuild a bike into a bratstyle motorcycle.
It's a kawasaki z400 ltd 1982 which was in very good condition (mechanically).

so as i have fairly low mechanical knowledge i decided to look up alot of other bikes from same brand and model and noticer most of them had the "empty triangle". so i dismounted everything on the bike, went to town with my grinder and weld.
This means that almost all original brackets and metalthingies to attach stuff is gone, which was the plan all along.
My plan was to remove the big battery, put in a small lithuum ion battery, remove the INSANLY large airbox and replace with k&n filter. well, now after some time it appears that my carbetours are constant velocity and i sort of needed that big ugly box or doom. i ave seen plenty of bikes without it so im curious if i ruined the entire bike or if there is a way to solve this`?
Do i need to change carb? can i rebuild the carb? what will happen now if i start the bike without it?
I went a little to far to fast i feel but im far from giving up, would just love some guidance on this matter.

Thanks in advance.

You haven't ruined anything.
CV carbs don't run optimally with pod's normally but they can certainly be jetted to be rideable. I'd put your filters on and see where you are. You may be pleasantly surprised or more likely you will have to do some jetting changes. Either way you shouldn't hurt anything.
Worst case scenario you swap to some Mikuni VM's or similar.

Glad to hear, I've also heard that filters such as uni pod foam filters are far more suitable

If you really have K&N filters, you're probably fine. The cheap pods that you see people talking about in hundreds of internet threads can restrict certain air intake ports in the bellmouth of the carb, which restricts air. K&N filters don't do that, nor do Uni filters. As Sonic points out, you run it and see. CV carbs rely on vacuum to lift the slides, so restrictions through the carb may cause the slides to not go up so well and the carb lean out or the bike fall flat for lack of fuel. Or the opposite, where the slide move too much and it pulls more fuel and causes it to be richer. Changing the jetting will sort all the out. The reality to all of this is that the bike will mostly run okay, and since you aren't running races or looking for the edge of performance, you may hardly notice. If you've never ridden the bike before the change, then it's an even better chance you won't notice, because you have nothing to gauge by.
