Refund Check

Coast to Coast
My tax withholding's got screwed up this year and was surprised to learn that I got a HUGE refund check. It is presently burning a hole in my pocket and I want to buy something sweet with it.

Choices...

80's Cb1100f
Vance and Hines exhaust, Hagon shocks, professional paint job on my 900
Custom AR
Shopping Spree at Harbor Freight
Save it for my fall trip to Italy and hopefully score something sweet there!

I am terrible at having disposable money bc it rarely happens!

I say pack it away for that perfect craigslist find.
I see bikes all the time that i have toi have I just wish i had a little money put away for just that purpose.

I know what you mean, any loose cash goes directly to toys. Bad habit, but hey, at least I don't smoke ^_^

But try, like Sonic said, to put it away for that sweet find!

(and btw, Italy is nice but don't try to find anything proper to eat in the middle of the day, the only thing open is small cafés and they can only offer you small, expensive, sandwiches. )

Haha yeah I use the non smoking excuse too!

I have actually been to italy a couple times, you are correct about the midday meals! This trip is with the lady, but we plan on stopping in Bologna to check out the Ducati factory and I would love to buy some vintage Duc/MV leathers or something like that while im over there.

Agreed I was there last may. I'm a midday eater. I eat a small breakfast, a small dinner but a massive lunch. Italy was rough haha.

It may have been expensive and tiny portions but the bread and cheese on those "vendor" sandwiches was AMAZING!

3/4's on outstanding debts and 1/4 on something cool.

You'll like the results down the track if you get good at doing it now.

You sound like the old lady ;)

But I think that is what I am kind of leaning towards...responsibility sucks!

Ha, we are going to get a decent tax return but it will 100% go towards debts accumulated while unemployed. Once those are gone future returns will yeild spending on toys etc.

Normally that is what I do. But when I sold my house it cleared out a lot of those debts. This is the first time Ive ever really had the opportunity to be a little selfish with some extra cash. And I know once we have kids I wont ever have a chance haha. So yeah that is the struggle :)

Do you qualify for any credits? Like the additional child tax credit ($1000 per child under the age of 17) or the earned income tax credit or education credit? Also, how did you receive your refund so soon, IRS says it can take up to 21 days.

No Kids. Got a pretty good education credit. I filled like feb 4th. And it took about 16 days to post in my bank account.

Yeah its a bit of a bummer.

Feels awesome to go riding after sticking it to the banks by paying off a debt years ahead of schedule though - my refund last year got my student loan gone for good, and my credit card is next on the hit list as its 7k. My aeroplane owes 14k but thats should reduce to 7k after a swap for another plane and some cash adjustment my way. That'll halve the interest, double the effectiveness of my above-board repayments and still let me go flying... freakin' awesome!

Just randomly I've got something like 20k worth of credit in my pocket as the banks keep trying to tempt me into trouble... don't think I'm earning them enough money! Kinda strange for a 24 year old I guess.

Cheers - boingk

That's pretty impressive for a 24 year old to be allowed to go that far into debt! That's sweet that you fly...I'll stick to the ground. Paying off debt does feel good....but so does paying cash for a sweet cb1100....decisions decisions haha

i say have a good time in italy, do everything you want to do there and if theres some left over put it into the bike or save it.

Haha, thanks I guess! I suppose if you work hard and keep existing debts under control then the banks are willing to lend you more. Not that I always use increases, but they may come in handy if something unplanned happens. Already have for repairs/bills/etc.

Anwho, hope you have a good time however the money is spent.

Keep it classy, gentlemen.
