Found a vfr500 not running with no title. I love these bikes and the dude's asking $200. My idea is first to see about getting it running and papered. If that's not an option then it'll be to part it out on ebay. Thoughts? Am I insane seing as how I'm already working on two bikes? The wife seems agreeable BTW. Just wanting some feedback from my southern brethren.

NO TITLE!!!!!!!!! FLAG

If you want to part it out, I would pay no more than $100! Its not running and no title!
Being you have bikes and one of them is in full breakdown right now, I would hold off for a better deal!

First I'd make sure it's not stolen. If it checks out, I'd go for it. Doesn't seem like you can go too wrong for the price.

DO IT! If you cn get papers, awesome bike to add to the stable. If not, part her out and youll make your money back + a nice bit of scratch for other projects. Call the state police with the VIN and make sure its not stolen first though...

If it's not running, what are you going to sell? Plastic. So the plastic has to be near perfect. Big pieces of plastic are expensive to ship because they're going to be over-sized. Is someone going to payy all that? Wheels are good? They're heavy to ship.

No title and not running- what could go wrong with a deal like that?!

As the day has gone on I've gotten more and more wary of this bike. Now the only way I'll buy it is if the plastic is (almost) all there, the motor will turn with a fresh battery, and the vin is clear. I'm gonna call him tonight and set up a time to see it.

Ahhh... Shit man, gotta take a chance every once and awhile... ;D

It matters not anymore... The bike is gone. It's for the best I think. I've just started a whole new thing on my cb750, and that makes two projects going at once. Now go check out my cafe build thread and let me know what ya think!!!

I gotta agree with VonYinzer. I got my DS7 as a non-running heap with no title.

Well she's long gone now! I'm getting income tax in tomorrow... so if I can find another cheapie bike quickly, I may be able to sneak another one into the garage.

Holy shit! I posted that last one... Then I went to look on CL. I saw a dude with a bunch of cb/cl350 projects. He's bringing one over tomorrow afternoon! And he's going to trade it to me for the stock pipes off of my cb750! It's a 69 (i think) cb350 with some scrambler pipes! :D

KILLER! Thats great man! Im workin on sneaking a 3rd bike in now myself... The guys I build with each have 2 so I have to 1 up the bastards. ;)

SCORE!
And my wife's not pissed! Here's my thoughts on that: My wife is in a Mardi Gras society here in Gulf Shores. Today is Fat Tuesday and she's been drinking red bull and vodka all day and throwing beads at people. I think when she wakes up tomorrow she's gonna go "Did my husband get another bike yesterday?... Nah!" We'll see.
Anyway the dude brought over a 68 cb350 with scrambler pipes and maybe a 69 tank... I don't know enough about these bikes yet to tell. I felt bad taking a bike for a set of pipes so I threw in the stock shocks and front fender as well. He was super stoked! He's a nice guy and we shot the shit for a while. He's got 20 19 bikes around his yard. We're going to get along fine!
Anyways, here are the pics.

I haven't gotten into her yet, but he said he thinks the motor's locked. The bike doesn't have a kicker so he doesn't know. Well I've got a kicker! Just have to install it. I'm gonna go start a big arse thread!

Yesterday a sort-of-family member (My wife's ex-husband's dad... my step-kids' Granddad) came over. He's a Big Time collector. Mostly old Hondas but he's got an old knucklehead and a few others. He's also a really cool guy, full of tips and tricks and information. He wanted to look at the 350. When I showed him and told him I traded the pipes for it he was like "He got you!" Totally not the reaction I was expecting. The pipes were valuable and all... but this is a complete (ish) bike. Anyway... the old timer thinks it's not such a good deal. But he also tried to buy those pipes from me several times, and my bike before I did the cafe thing. So maybe he's just jealous...

go on......tell them "the rest of the story" paul harvey!

You cant tell that much and not spill the beans! Tell them the bad news too!

It really is not that bad since a solution was sitting on his work bench, but he called me confused of his direction since "the old man" tried to sway him to resto-land! The old man is one of those restore it to stock and don't discrace history by changing it types! "If Honda would have wanted it that way, they would have built it that way" is his creed! Anyway, Alex was almost crying on the phone, after some verbal bitch slapping I woke him up! Thank God I was there in this time of confusion! I will let him explain what he thought was a delima, what I proposed as a solution, and a great tip the old man did gave!

yes... It's true. I was in tears. I dunno about what Brandon proposed or a mystery dilemma(Blame it on college and missing braincells) but after all of this talk of me being had by the guy who traded me, the old man got down to the business of inspecting the bike. Then he tried something and I had one of those head-slap moments. I hadn't even checked the shift lever. The tranny's stuck!!! Fudge-pops! So as I'm telling him how I'm going to have to pull the engine anyway and I might as well split the cases and fix it, the old man drops a few bombs on me. He's all like "Pull the engine? Nah, pull the spark plugs, drain the oil and fill the cylenders with PB Breaker. Okay... I've heard of similar solutions so this isn't that off the wall. He says it may take a while but to let it soak and the cylenders will eventually be free. Then fill the motor with pb breaker instead of oil and let that soak and that may free the tranny. Okay... then he tells me to drain the breaker out and fill the motor with transmission fluid and run it for a few seconds. Then drain out the transmission fluid and refill her with oil and good to go. Wow. The dude's got like 100 + bikes so I'm gonna go with experience and try this. It all hinges on the tranny coming free though. If that doesn't happen then out comes the motor and the real fun begins.
As far as resto land goes the old man has a cherry stock seat and pipes for the 68 cb350... It was worth thinking about, but Twisted smacked me back to reality. Cafe all the way. I'm a molester of old bikes... why try to change my nature?
