Show Off Your Seats!

Been Around the Block
We can all post in pictures of our seats. It'll be great for someone to find a common thread instead of searching for pics of all bikes in different threads. Only finished seats please.

Well we've made five seats till now. Black, Chrome, Red, White and Dark Grey in colors.

This is my old 400f, got the fiberglass seat off eBay, was made for the bike all I had to do was drill 4 holes & attached the stock hinge & latch. Found a guy on C/L who painted it not quite the same shade of red, but close enough. Had a friend of a friend who does hot rod upholstry cover it with an old leather jacket (suede side out). She used a thicker pad than I wanted but it was very comfy :)

My $40 totally wood and a little soda bottle seat. Which I upholstered myself, it came out pretty well for my first upholstery. :D

some new projects in the bin as far as seats go:

carbon versions of my standard seats

AND... rolled and polished aluminum seats (here's the back end almost done)

my less than $30 seat, the back is a german skid lid cut in half and the front is some vinyl and some sheet metal and some carpet pad :D i had the vinyl and the sheet metal and the carpet pad

My seat... I've got two dollars in it for the fasteners that hold it together. It's made from a street sign, a tank from a 72 yamaha tx500 (the bike was given to me!), some blocks of wood(laying around), some chopped up seat foam from an old atv seat(found in trash), some of that interlocking rubber flooring(also found in trash), and some leather that I cut off of a trashed office chair(found in... trash). I came out with a shape that I really like... now if I could just settle on a paint scheme...

Another seat from bits found in the trash! This one's made from an outboard motor cowl and some thick ass sheet metal hammered out into the pan. The cushion pan is made of fiberglass with wood laid in. The pad is made from an old jet ski seat I had found and stashed a while back and it's covered with some vinyl that cost $5. Total investment in this seat is 38 dollars more than my last one. $40

I already started a thread on the making of this, but what the heck, here's the short version.

The stock seat pan shape

The modified pan made to fit the new tank and round off the back:

Carve up some foam and glue it down:

After upholstery, adding trim:

Final product - note it' not sitting at the right angle in this shot:

The hump turned out looking more massive that I liked but it 'll have to do for now. I figured I'd put some miles on the bike before I reshape the seat again, I'm guessing once I've tried to sit on it for a while there will be other changes to teh foam I'll want to make, so I may as wel do it all at once to save on recovering it yet again.
