sl 350 cb 350 cl350 new rear brake cable?

I can't seem to find any where that sales a replacment rear brake cable. Does anyone know where to find one or any advice? A universal fit? Looking for a 1971 sl350 k1. Thanks
 
I haven't checked recently but you can usually find CL/SL 350 brake cables.
About $42.00 las time I priced one.
Try Honda, they put things back in production when demand is high enough for a limited production run
 
Are you referring to the cable from the foot lever to the rear brake? That cable is long out of production. But you can convert it to the brake rod like the CLs and CBs, that's what I did with my 69 SL350.
 
Yes that's the cable in question. Mine seems to work just a bit crusty. Pretty straight forward swap out? Did you pick up a used one on ebay?
 
The brake rod is common, Honda may even still have them but yes, plenty on ebay.

Honda want's to control whats happening so you'll probably have to go through dealer.
Try Z1, they have parts diagrams and may know an aftermarket supplier
 
Motion pro has all the goodies to build your own,,,you just have to cut(cable and housing) and solder on your own ends(they have a large selection of cable hardware)
 
Just switch to the rod unless you're doing a concourse restoration. Cheap, easy and won't break, unlike the cable.
 
Hey I know that im going a little back here since this post has not been touched in a while but it was looking at my Buddy CB350 and the rod pushes the arm extending from the hub in the opposit way than mu stock SL break cable would. Does this mean that you will have to weld a new mount under the brake levers Motion pivot point to get it going the right way or is there something inside that can simply be flipped.

My cable works but its really ruff and crusty like the original post.
 
The CB/CL brake arm at the hub hangs down from the pivot.
Does the SL attach on top?
If so, just flip that arm and add the rod.
 
its not as simple as flipping the lever at the back on the sl
it can be done, a rod conversion on the sl i have done it on mine and it takes a different length torque arm and a certain lever at the back as well as rotating the lever a couple notches on the spline at the pedal so as to minimize bump brake
on my sl the rod travels over the rear axle and just barely clears
if you just flip the lever it will be hanging crazy low to the ground not good if you ever go off-road

You have removed the cable and tried oiling it?
Could be fine after some lube
 
my cable housing was shot i could have made up a cable but thought i would try a rod conversion and although the angle of moment at the rear is not ideal,it has been worked out to not rub on anything the rod is a nearly dead straight pull and bump brake effect is only ever so slight,rotating the splines at the front was key
the brake rod has a drop offset clevis end the raer stay is TL125 i think
the rear lever is some kind of ally mx bit

That rear brake set up is completely different from the 69 SL350 which is basically the same as the CB/CL. If you do a rod conversion, use a brake actuator arm from a CB/CL rear drum.

correct but he has a 71 like mine ..i think...and he would be better off just getting a stock cable nos or otherwise my mod involved some amount of testing/trial and error lol ;)
 
I like that set up, think I'll look out for a 71 CL rear hub and brake plate
What's the length of stock cable inner and outer?
There are a load of different ATV's that use rear cable, just a case of finding the right one.
Maybe we should get a cable list going similar to the forks and axle one's?
 
Thanks for the PIC and info! Im getting my brakes tomorrow and ill get to see it the rear cable is work anything when I get it back on the bike. But I might switch to this setup for satiety sake.

Another thing to think on is will the rear brake "Activate" when the suspension is compressed since the whole rear end of the bike moves up. the brake stay arm is connected to the swing arm ( I think im not right next to the bike now) and the brake rod would be connected to the frame a non moving part. And since the brake actuate arm is above the center point of the wheel it would be pushed away from the main part of the frame aka the brake leaver. So in turn it would be causing the rear and to brake...

I know that was a bit deep, hope yall had your boots on for it but does anyone get what im saying?

It may be such a little amount that it wont matter but if you completely compress the rear end by lets say jump the bike it might make the rear end lock up when the rear end compresses and moves up. But I don't have the setup so xb33bsa might have to let us in on it.
