SL / CB350 Mash Up

To lower the axle and move it back I cut up another swing arm and took the mounting plates out and welded them to the existing axle plate and filled in the blanks with 1/4" plate. I still have more welding and reinforcing to do but I'll do that after I take the bike all apart. You can't really see it in the picture.

I mounted a SL350 front fender, some thick dirt bike handle bars I had, a CL350 gas tank, I welded on some side covers to hide the battery from view, and extended the exhaust pipe and mounted two Harley Sportster mufflers. I think they are a good size but they are heavy. I ordered a Honda XR450 rear fender, it should be here today.

The rear shocks are kinda soft. They aren't too bad actually but I was experimenting and I cut a one inch spacer and put it them on top of the spring. Now they are a little too stiff so I'm going to cut half inch spacers tonight and try them out.

that swingarm might work but the twisting loads on the main tubes is a lot higher than they were designed for because of the silly offset like that. you have mooved the twisting loads way off centerline of the main tubes giving it leverage that multiplies the forces :'(....the shocks will not work at all ..you need shocks with a much stiffer overall rate on the spring no amount of preload is going to fix that issue.you also need a shock with much firmer damping now you have increaSED REAR WHEEL TRAVEL BY AT LEAST 50%
it is not to late to scrap what you have done and just do a proper swingarm with longer shocks

I pretty much disagree with everything about you, except your avatar. I'll build the bike and ride it around and the world well still spin. Someday I might move the shock mounts back and use longer shocks but for now I'm sticking to my original design. I hope you find happiness somewhere out there and someday discover the fantastic, wonderful world of proper case and punctuation. Good day sir.
 
what i have stated is indisputable fact, written in stone ......educate yorself about suspension and frame geometry you will be better off for it and hopefully not be killed outright on the deathtrap you are building or worse cause an accident involving innocent civies

Like the stance of the bike too.
 
This thread turned from a build to a porn site pretty fast but I'll be following this, going to be pretty interesting to see how everything pans out and what the finishing product is!

I have a complete CB100 I need to work on. It needs a lot of help. The engine needs a new top end installed. I have it. Just need to do it.

I have taken a break from this bike for a couple weeks. I was getting my boat ready to sell and I spent a week or so working on my go kart. I did paint the frame tho and started assembly.

I might get back on it next week.
 
The bike is almost done. I need to install the headlight and find a seat pad for it. I also plan to put badges on the gas tank. It runs pretty well, though it smokes a little out of the right cylinder. I haven't ridden it yet. Maybe this weekend after I hook up the rear brake.

just be sure and loosen up that chain a bit it looks too tight
you will need about 4 -6 inches of up and down slack,that is an estimate but you can ,in fact you must ,verify how much you need... dont do that and you will break shit
you cant go by the honda manual to adjust the chain anymore
 
oh and be fucking careful you have fucked up the stability of the bikes handling enough that it could very well kill you
 
I rode the bike this weekend. It's pretty awesome. I got new rear shocks off of a 1981 CB650, they are longer and the coil is thicker, no preload spacer is needed. The bike handles good and the large tires allow me to roll over stuff with ease. The turning radius is a little more than stock due to the larger tires and stretched wheelbase but still manageable. I need a seat cushion for it and I need to install the headlight, then I'll be ready to rock.
