Small rant

Kanticoy

Mad Science!
DTT BOTM WINNER
I've noticed a trend lately of folks coming in, reviving threads over a year old with comments like "nice" "cool" "good work", etc. When i investigate, they're always less than 100 post counters. This leads me to believe that the "fill the forum with bs" trend is rampant just to gain a 10% discount from DCC. This irritates me to no end.

I hate that. That is all.

I was just thinking the same when I saw old posts updated in the BOM forum ::)

I think I have a solution ;)

Let me in on it. Stuck in the truck at work I've watched one guy boost his post count by 50 by posting one liners in old threads. All within an hour. Irritates the hell out of me.

Let's see if it works...

I've blown the whistle on a couple of those myself.

Yeah, I appreciate you doing that too. I noticed, and I believe at the last we can expose their douche baggery.

You mean we can't vote on Last September's Bike of the month!?!?!?!

The other thing I hate is when someone posts one word to a thread so that they get notifications of new content, such as "watching."

All they have to do is subscribe to the thread without EVERYBODY who is subscribed to the thread getting a message that there is a new post in the thread.

I also hate when someone posts, "No progress lately. I've been busy."

Another good one is replying in a 3 year old classified ad with "Still got this?"

I understand what you're saying, but as a new member I think it's a bit harsh. I love motorcycles and I love DTT, and wish I could contribute more to the website. Sometimes I might make a short comment coz I know that it encourages some thread starters. I was looking forward to getting to 100 post to get the DCC discount, when when I reached it I still didn't order, but still visit this site everyday AT LEAST 5 times a day. I did get my DCC discount, but I flew to Tampa to get it!!! I hope to be able to contribute more at some point, but for now I'll just be posting some "nice" and "cool bike", but not in year old post. And think of it this way...it a guy is still looking at year old post, there must be something here they like. NO OFFENSE INTENDED!!!

Island, that's fine occasionally, but every post? If you're building a bike, you have something to contribute my friend. I understand not having time, etc. bud, but trust me, there are some people on here blatantly abusing the system. Think about it this way, the reason that DCC started that program was to honor people active in the vintage bike community. It's easy to be active, I learn something every day from here. All you have to do is get involved with discussions. Eventually it's like having a beer with a bunch of friends. Now imagine having said beer with friends and a televangelist or an infomercial walks into the middle of it. I'm not picking on anyone, I'm trying to urge people to become active on the site. Before long, you'll be answering questions for the new guy.

islandstar dont miss kanticoy's message here I have been a member here for a while now and I have made a few hundred post and I am still in the learning stage myself and a lot of my post have been short. "Hey thats nice" "cool look" but I and from what you are saying you neither did it to get the discount! I have ordered from DCC since I got to a 100 and have never even went for the discount cause I always forget to do it. But in saying all that you nor I have evry made 50+ post during a day just to get a discount! These guys here do not look down on you because you may not have the knowledge that they have instead they will bend over backwards to help you learn that knowledge. I have personally sat down in the same garage with Tim, kanticoy, von yinzer, cyclefreak, troybuilt and justinlonghorn and many many more of the these guys and they know I do not have their knowledge and they treat me with the same respect as they do each other. So in saying all that it was the matter in which some have gone about getting the 100 post that was the point in all this!
