It probably would have worked to just press in a new stem from a gsxr, but this would mean that I would have had to locate one and pay for it. I would have also had to make some sort of spacer for the top triple clamp due to a smaller stem triple nut diameter. It was quite easy to just lathe down the stem I already had...
The stem was pressed out before machining... and it was not that difficult to get out of there as long as you press it out straight
I am not totally sure what you are referring to in regards to the bore of the fork legs, but the front wheel is from a 636 as are the forks so it was a direct fit this time around.
Well, not too much to report. My progress is really limited by a broken wrist. Anywho, here are some pics of the engine mounted in the frame. Frame is a silver with a slight metal flake. Little bit at a time. Now waiting on swingarm and engine bolts to get back from the chromer. Enjoy

Looking great. I wish I was making as much progress as you are. Did you cut off the back of the frame behind the swingarm pivot then add a new support for the rear frame rail?
John, the upper frame rails are all new and shaped for my seat. Everything behind the rear engine support frame was removed and I welded in new supports to new upper frame rails as well as rear set tubes

Jens, although they look very nice, you may want to re-think the k&n air filters that you have on there. They have been known to cause tuning issues on the triples. They really don't like the big flat plate that is on the back of the filters. Filter of choice is usually foam uni's. Other than that, keep up the good work.
