Squirley's Kawi H1 build thread

Biker reject
It probably would have worked to just press in a new stem from a gsxr, but this would mean that I would have had to locate one and pay for it. I would have also had to make some sort of spacer for the top triple clamp due to a smaller stem triple nut diameter. It was quite easy to just lathe down the stem I already had...

Jens

Did you press out the stem before you machined it down? If so was it easy to press out?

Your wheels look great, did you have much trouble sorting out the front wheel axle to adapt to the larger bore in the fork legs?

The stem was pressed out before machining... and it was not that difficult to get out of there as long as you press it out straight

I am not totally sure what you are referring to in regards to the bore of the fork legs, but the front wheel is from a 636 as are the forks so it was a direct fit this time around.

Jens

Ok, didn't realise that you were using the 636 wheel, I thought they were EX650 wheels.

Got ya John, only the rear wheel is from an ex650 and that was easy enough to change over with just sourcing some new bearings.

Jens

Well, not too much to report. My progress is really limited by a broken wrist. Anywho, here are some pics of the engine mounted in the frame. Frame is a silver with a slight metal flake. Little bit at a time. Now waiting on swingarm and engine bolts to get back from the chromer. Enjoy

WOW JENS!! looks fast just sitting there, half together..LOL

You know, casts are chic magnets... LOL

Looking great. I wish I was making as much progress as you are. Did you cut off the back of the frame behind the swingarm pivot then add a new support for the rear frame rail?

Thanks guys,

John, the upper frame rails are all new and shaped for my seat. Everything behind the rear engine support frame was removed and I welded in new supports to new upper frame rails as well as rear set tubes

Beautiful!! You're gonna get me pumped to do my H2's before i finish my 441 for the next project :) What a cool project!
Kev

Looks awesome as usual, Jens! I'm pumped to see where this ends up.

Are you currently working on a 441? If so is there a thread on the forum?

I'm currently working on a cb200, but have a '68 441vs about half done. No build thread on it as I did the work quite a while ago.
Kev

Well, swingarm came back from the chromer... Getting everything assembled slowly.

Jens, although they look very nice, you may want to re-think the k&n air filters that you have on there. They have been known to cause tuning issues on the triples. They really don't like the big flat plate that is on the back of the filters. Filter of choice is usually foam uni's. Other than that, keep up the good work. :)
