SR500 Project

Thanks guys.
Things like this make you appreciate how much time goes into these things.
I've probably got 3.5 hours in those little things.

Done yet?

Kidding man, I just needed to sign up for this thread.

But seriously, quit messing around and get to work.....

Those braces are wrong dumbass they need to go on the outside edge if the tubing

With .120 wall tube and 3/16 gussets and a 150 lb rider the subframe is so far overkill it isn't going to matter.
But you're right it seems, Ill move them to the edge

while awaiting the tig i decided the shop is too cold and propane is expensive.
So:

The top barrel will get some baffles and a squirrel cage blower which should push a pretty hefty amount of hot air out the slot in the bottom. Ill probably run the blower tubing up the side of the stove for extra heating.

And we have heat:

And I only almost died once.

I'll toss them out on the curb. I'm not raising their babies!

Rich ard will take them if and only if we can get stick figure barrel stickers for the back of his mini van....i dont know how he see's out the rear view now

HA! nice

Okay so..
Trying to get the front end worked out and need some advice.

The WR stem is too long by 20mm. A bigger problem is that they don't make bearings the correct size to fit it to my steering neck.
(I need 28x43 mm taper rollers)
The SR stem is too short and the top triple doesn't fit over it anyway.

So what are my options here?
Anyone know what the cost would be to have a custom steering stem machined? I don't have access to a lathe unfortunately (or the knowhow)

The way I see it at the moment is I can:
A) Have the WR stem turned down to 27mm which I can get a bearing for. And then the top threads would need to be cut and rethreaded and a new top nut made. ANd cut it down by 20mm. cost?

B) have a custom stem turned and a top nut made.

Please clarify...

The SR stem is too short to fit the SR neck, amd you can find bearings to fit the new bottom tree to the SR neck?

The stock SR stem is too short to fit the SR neck yes, because the new triples are considerably thicker than the stock ones.

The stem in the new bottom tree (2009 wr250r) is too long, and is 28mm up top (biggest bearing I can get is 27)

I would say getting the WR stem turned down would be the best way to go about it. In all my searches I could only find one bearing of that size and it is just a standard sealed ball bearing.

Lengthen the SR stem and weld it into the damn lower triple. Quit making small problems big ones. Christ.

When you figure out how to weld aluminum to steel you let me know ;)

As it turns out, I cut the back of the lower triple with a 1/32" wheel and pressed the stem out, put the SR stem in there and Tig'ed it up. Seems good but on brads suggestion I'm going to put a roll pin in there to make sure it doesn't come out.
