SR500 Project

This will be the basic shape. I ended up taking 2 layers off the bottom and messing with the curves, cutting in some fork dents and it looks like:

I'll get better pictures tomorrow some time.
When I'm 100% on the shape I will make one out of wood and then beat some steel or aluminum around it, haven't decided which yet.

This thread is both inspiring and hilarious at the same time! Nice work everyone! Great build Sonic!!

Thanks guys, it turns into more and more work every time I look at it haha.
It WILL be ready by spring thaw though.

About to get back in town after too long away from the bike playing around on the snowboard.
Work should resume this week.

Is that tank final? Gas and foam tend to make a napalm type goop.. You should reconsider... Haha wink

Looks good otherwise bud!

Yes. Tank is final, this bike runs on napalm. I just redo the tank after each ride ;)

Love love Love this! I'm going to be cutting into my frame sometime this week when the IL weather gives me a damn break! I'll be needing a seat hoop if you want to hook a brother up ;) Also Sonic noticed you live in TN I'm gonna be moving to Nashville this summer!

Decided I'm going to be doing a lot of blasting on this one, so went ahead and did what I should have done along time ago:

Waiting for the silicone to dry inside, then I will do the window tomorrow night and fire her up and see how it goes!
Wheels will be the first to be blasted. I can't wait.
awesome!

progress?

Absolutely none.
I've been restoring the lathe and the bike is sitting on the back burner.
I did get some 1/2" aluminum to make my brake caliper bracket, so that should move things along a bit once its done.

Yup, needed to step away from it for a while, once the lathe is up and running I'll be getting back to it asap!
And I hope this one comes out as cool as I am hoping haha.

Well, I figured you guys were probably all going to kill yourselves if I didn't update this thread.
So here you go.

The reason i have been putting this off is because i didn't want to make this damn brake bracket.
Original plan was an adapter bracket.
So I sat around and stared at it for about an hour and spent another 20 min with cardboard mocking up a complicated ass bracket that ultimately made me hate everything.

After scrapping the first attempt I looked at it again and then it hit me. This is why i spent so god damn much money on a tig welder.
I took the original bracket, cut it down and ground it smooth. Then grabbed some 1/2" 6061 and welded the fuckers together. Now we're cooking with gas. This is how things should be done

A bunch of testing, mic-ing, testing, clamping, mic-ing, drilling and tapping later i had this

a little more cutting and welding up the old holes and I had this:

And finally:

All this took a measly 4 hours. Fuck me.

Moral of this story is its a bitch to adapt a dirtbike front end to a crotch rocket rotor, on a vintage wheel, with a supermoto caliper.

But now that that is done things should move right along.
A lot of assembly and electronics mounting next, followed by my first tank build so we shall see how that goes.
