Plan with the SR was to re-assemble it then get it running as a quick and dirty make over and have some low powered fun around the local back lanes for next spring.................So I quickly assembled it so see what Id ended up with.........there was quite a few extra bits and pieces. Enough for nearly 2.5 bikes minus a frame?.........should be a simples task to get it running and look half decent with the minimum amount of work??
Set about cutting up the alloy mudguards, and rolling over the edges to give the paint some chance.
I then tried in various places on the bike and settled for a lower mounted position.
whilst messing about with the mudguards I decided to replace the new tyres with some other new tyres!..............slightly more aggressive pattern, nothing to do with performance and handling, purely aesthetic.
when I was down the front end I had to make some adjustments to the front brake shoe carrier to tweak the centralisation of the hub. quick skim off 2mm in the lathe and all good.
.....mounted the front mudguard onto the new brackets, but wasn't quite happy with the heads of the screws sticking out so made a small tool to form an indentation on the surface to sink them in a bit.
whilst I was looking at that picture above I want happy with the position of the headlight so I decided to drop it down about 15mm.........that 15mm was a few hours work !
....greetings. Hopefully everyone had a nice summer? Clocks have gone back rain has put an end to the drought and global warming....so its time to get back in the shed/garage and get on with this SR250. Autumn/Winter 2022 build season has been in full swing for a few weeks so though it time to post some updates......
Some of the updates are from the beginning of this year...so I'll try and get up to date.
Where was I?
Foot peg brackets I think. The Sr250 comes with rubber mounted foot peg brackets which have some weird angle rubber bushes.......the angles were affecting my OCD so I set about squaring them up and engineering them to fit properly
...whilst down in the foot control dept., I decided to get rid of the rubber cover and brake pedal. So turned up some aluminium finishers, some mounting hardware and welded them in place.
........on to the mudguards. The edges were a little sharp and could prove problematic come paint time so ground up an old pair of pliers and set about rolling over the edge, and hammer/dolly it more rounded. Got that mounted with some indentations and some suitable machine washers.
..time to get the bike off its build table and onto the floor. The increased wheel diameter meant the crusty side stand was now way too short, so set about extending that, repositioning it and altering its "park" position on the frame.
trying to get the taper looking right and get it where I wanted it to sit took a bit of head scratching. The pivots were all worn out so had to be welded and machined back.
pre Christmas update.......im nearly up to date with thread uploads.
onto the rear wheel / chain adjusters. Never really liked the snail cam versions so set about designing and making my own. Bit of drilling, turning and welding....
