Nice Rich, now how are you going to mount the new tyre without messing up the paint? I am trying to decide should I paint the wheels on the gl then mount or to mount new tyres and then mask and paint.
I know epoxy holds up pretty well if you're prep is good, I've done several rims in Rustoleum's 'Universal advanced formula' though it's not marked as such according to the helpful fellow at my local hardware store it is a very stout epoxy. I can say that it goes on REALLY thick and coats well.
All that blather, love the color Rich! Bold move painting the spokes too....

I mount my tires and be careful not to let the beads seat. Then I get some cardboard or poster board,I cut two halves for each half of the wheel, and big enough to cover the tire. Then I tape news paper over it to keep paint dust from getting on the other side of the wheel.Wipe with denatured alcohol and spray away.
Mike- I will be taking it to my tire to the local shop. They are pretty good about being delicate with painted wheels. I tried mounting that Kenda on the other wheel on Saturday ......after 2 hours I gave up. So it's getting mounted at the shop as well.........

Heat and dish soap is your friend when installing tires.I put my tires in my car on a sunny day and then mount them in the afternoon.I use a table spoon of dish soap and watetr in one of those el cheapo spray bottles found in the travel size section of box mart type stores.
Oh boy, believe me - I tried everything. The tire sat in front of a torpedo heater for about 3 hours (at a safe distance) and I had the whole bead slathered in straight dish soap. Still felt like I was putting a 17" tire on an 18" wheel. At one point I literally checked to make sure it wasn't a 17" tire........ The front tire is a 100/90 and went on easily. I think it might be because the rear is a 110/80.
Luckily, my local shop doesn't charge extra for pita mounts.
Man that sounds painful... over here unless you buy your tyres online or you tell them otherwise the price includes fitting. It does bump the price up, and if you go to the wrong place they'll scratch your rims up, but that's the general rule.
I haven't been to the place I'm getting my tyres from this time round (haha... round, get it? sad hey...) so hopefully they'll treat my rims with respect...

Those tire must be rough.I mounted my 120-60 on a 3.0 wheel and 160-60 on a 4.5 wheel. Those were a pain but not as rough as the ones you were fitting. Were they bias ply? Those are a real PITA to mount.
Hail.

Ha! Thanks Joey. There was a discussion on another forum about how slang is destroying the English language. I pointed out that somebody should ask the British how they feel about American English. Pretty sure they would say we butchered it already........

Next thing you know you'll be saying stuff like spanner and the colour of your sparking plugs.
WAAAY back in olden times when I had my Spitfire, that was the hardest part of using the Haynes manual... open the "Bonnet"... and inside the "Boot".
