Thanks fellas. I got the front wheel assembled. I was having compatibility issues with the spokes, nipples, and wheel, but got it all figured out. Problem was, the 18" hoop had bigger holes than the nipples I planned on using. After digging around the garage for a little while I found some nipples for the original rear wheel - perfect diameter and length, and the thread pattern was a match as well! So here's the front wheel all laced and painted:
I have to work the next couple nights but will have the tyre mounted up by next weekend. I cleaned up the VM34's I got but want to get some closer jets before I try to mount them. I have to wire up the Acewell unit, then start looking at the paint for the seat and tank......
Duplicolor Metalcast. They sell the primer and a couple colors at Autozone (local to me), but I had to order that gold paint from Summit Racing. And I'm really liking the stuff. The red and gold cure really well, but the "smoke" didn't lay down the same for some reason - that is most likely my fault though......
wow Rich the bike is looking great. I have been in the middle of moving for the last 3 days and missed a whack of stuff. My inbox had like 250 notifications! I am currently catching up on the neighbors WiFi, gotta love small towns, there are 3 people with it and no one bothers securing it ;D I'll give em a beer for it later.
Lovin the direction you are going on the cafe, alos the dirty GR is frickin sic too.
Thanks Mike! I dropped off the front wheel and tire this morning (don't want to scratch that paint). I didn't order a rim strip, and they didn't have one in stock so I have to drop one off today. So by tomorrow morning I should have the bike rolling on 2 wheels again!
Ha! They got it mounted sooner than I thought! To compensate for the smaller diameter, I pushed the forks down about 1.25" - so thats why the front end may look higher. And obviously, please ignore all the wires hanging out the front......that's still a WIP too.
