swingarm swap questions.

Der konig
I have an '86 ninja swingarm I am going to run on my 550, it is only slightly narrower than the stock part, so I will ned to make spacers (approx 5 mm each).

my question is, do I center the swingarm in the frame, and then use spacers on the axle to line the chain up, or do I center the wheel in the swingarm, and center it to the chain that way?

THANKS !!!

The wheel MUST be aligned with the centreline of the bike. If you don't align the rear wheel with the front wheel the bike could actually be dangerous to ride. Establish where the rear wheel must go, then alighn your swingarm, and then your chain. Sprocket placement can be done with either spacers, or cutting. I have never done this, but will be on project Shitbag, and that is how I will do it.

THANKS!

so swingarm centered, and wheel centered in swingam.

thanks a ton, now I can get to work (if it would stop raining!!!)

No. You MUST find the centreline of the bike. The cl will extend from the centre of the front wheel through the centre of the headstock extend through the frame, and to the rear of the bike. The centre of the rear wheel must be in line with the CL of the bike. The swing arm can be fitted to the frame in accordance to the where the rear wheel is placed. Basically it doesn't matter how the swingarm is mounted whatsoever, as long as the rear wheel is centered, and in alignment with the front wheel.

Once you're designated your centerline then it's really a matter of spacers.
That should be cool once you get it dialed in!
