symbol meanings

The power in most symbols lies in the lack of understanding most folks have.
Those used to promote oppressive and subversive agendas are often hard to
see in a positive light through time.

So as well as many say to each their own, that falls short of reality when
as a society we have not embraced the hurtful past and it's impact on our varied cultures.

Seek knowledge and in time you may gain understanding...

In Canada and The 'States, we are free to do most what we please so long as we aren't hurting anyone.

Did anyone know that there is a National Socialist Party of Canada and US? http://nspcanada.nfshost.com/ http://www.nsm88.org/ (I just looked it up)

In Germany you flat out cant do this, in Germany they don't even have a Cadet program due to living in the shadow of the Hitler Youth.

We can show any symbol we please just be prepared to be judged on what you show.

Remember, Men and women died so you could have this freedom.

Only one symbol i'd be happy to stand by these days.

I think this brings up an important discussion of "Just because we can, does it mean we should". I am a firm believer in individual right, and I believe you have the right to do many things. But, I also believe that just because you have the right to do something does not mean that it can be done in good taste. I think to put something like a Swazi on a motorcycle in America is going to draw one connotation only, no matter of the rider's earnest effort to actually be displaying homage to "Eastern ideals" or whatever excuse your are using. All you will do is draw furtive looks from the respectable, hardworking John Q. Public who is not as eclectic and enlightened as you are. I would venture that most putting something like this on their bike are going for this exact shock-and-awe, and simply use some excuse of some obscure symbol meaning when put to task for a flagrant display of social retardedness.

Now, I realize that DTT has a very diverse group, and few of us actually color within society's lines. There is incredible knowlege and insight put out here that reflects all of our collective personalities. But, come on. Scaring little old ladies with your motorcycle adorned with Hitler's crest (only YOU know the eagle points the wrong way, making it "eastern" and not Nazi ::)) does not make you enlightened or eclectic. It pretty much just makes you a jackass granny-scarer.

You have the 'right' to do whatever you want, and I will readily concede that point to anyone. But you should also remember that everyone else has the 'right' to arrive at whatever conclusion about you they decide to light upon, and only you have the power to change that.

As usual, I will add my disclaimer that this is NOT directed at any individual, and simply represents my interpretation of the individual right vs. individual responsibility idea. :)

Good job talking in circles. You're free to do so, but it makes you ignorant because others are ignorant to the original symbolism. :rolls eyes: I don't give a shit who knows what my message is by it or is too stupid. If they have a problem, they can speak up and I'll lay some knowledge on them.

There has been an American National Socialist Party since the early 1940's. It was the American Nazi party. It was actually quite common place. But Americans being the "greatest" peoples on Earth claim ignorance to Nazi party propaganda etc. etc. It's rediculous. Just ball up and admit until Americans were effected (which was via an attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese to uphold their agreement with the Nazis) that they did not care what was happening on foreign soil.

Now the National Socialist Party has merged with the Ku Klux Klan and has a different message.

I should fly a Nazi flag and claim heritage not hate like the Americans with the rebel flag (yes, I have German heritage). But AGAIN, the war was not about slavery, as it was about remaining seperate from the North and was adopted by the ignorance of the KKK.

Well...

Interesting discussion. I posted the pic that Mike referenced originally. (It was a late 60s early 70s chopper with a small swastika on the tank, if ya havent seen it.)

I think some are sort of missing the point. It was complete shock value. The earliest guys that began using the swastika (as well as japanese flags and other Nazi symbols) were WW2 vets who came back and founded the outlaw clubs we've all grown to love. The fact of the matter is that in the middle of the last century when you wanted to be looked upon as an "outlaw" there wasnt really any beter way than by tossing some Nazi symbols on your scoot or vest.
Now, that said... I wouldnt ever rock any swastikas on my ANYTHING. Not because I think its in bad taste, but because I dont feel the need to piss off everyone I come across. If you want to, feel free. I dont give a fuck. No one should give a fuck. Sure, if youre an actual nazi out there preaching your bullshit, Ill make sure you know I disagree. If your a 1%er (or paying tribute to the outlaw biker culture of the 60s and 70s with a build) just looking to piss someone off, that its not worth my time to care what symbols you plaster on yourself. I mean, how is a swastika more offensive than the assholes with the rebel flags (ya, I know that point was mentioned) on their shirt? Ya, I know, youre from the south, its your culture... Whatever. Same thing.
And on another note, if the swastika is so damn offensive to everyone why arent we up in arms about this:
a1a.jpg

Its another symbol that the Nazis took that is actually part of several cultures (including our own) and every douchbag with a shitty cruiser has it plastered all over everything they own. Dont see you folks chasing them down and shaking your rolling pins at them. Why is that? Do we now get to pick and choose what is offensive to our delicate sensibilities? Apparently so...

When it comes down to stuff like that, I don't like it...

Not because it what it looks like but because they are military decorations. Its the whole thing "If you didn't earn it, don't wear it". Badges, medals, patches, etc...

BWAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Do a little research...

In its self, that style of cross is hundreds/ thousand+ years old.

Von, I'd agree with everything you've said, except the part about the Confederate flag being a racist symbol. I'm southern and proud of it. That does not make me a redneck, racist or ignorant. My family were land owners in Charleston and were an active part of the Confederacy. Infact, in my grandmothers house, hangs one of the seven original copies of SC sucession from the union. They fought for states rights. Not for slavery.

Im sorry SF... I shouldve been more clear. I certainly didnt mean to infer that all proud southerners are racist. My only point was that the Confederate flag has now become a symbol that is unfortunatly used by the lower forms of life nationwide as a badge of ignorant, racist honor. Even though it once stood for something proud and noble to many, as did the swastika, iron cross, pentogram, eye of horus, etc... All I was trying to state was that its another once respectable and powerful symbol that has been turned into something ugly and far removed from its original stature by those with hate and blind rage in their black hearts. Hope ya dont think I was being an ass.

No worries mate. Actually I deleated my post cause that issue is personal for me and its easy for the internet discussions to get out of hand when people take it personaly. I fear I was in danger of becomeing an ass, and I been trying to reform my hostile elitist reputation.
I do appreciate your sympathy. Lets go back to talking about bikes, Cheers!

Yessir... Like it would sneak up and punch you square in the dick. Than bang your old lady. My kinda scoot.

Speedfiend, I'm glad you made your post, and VonYinzer posted his reply. As a decendent of the last Confederate General to surrender, I took his post, much as you did. I considered Von a friend, and now still do. ;D

But first and foremost (the symbols in question) are spiritual symbols. By your definition no one should display country flags, as they are military decorations.

Yeah, at least make sure the mud goes all the way 'round the tires ;)

One of the more awesome looking street legal bikes I've seen.
