The Copper Bavarian (new pics)

Re: The Copper Bavarian

that thing looks bad ass! love the knobbies... how are you plating them? you doing the home kit?
i love the whole look! personally i would add just small 3 or 4 inch fender on the tail off the frame to finish it out but that is me that seat is just wicked

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Who are you using for the copper plating and how much is it setting you back?

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Not sure I missed this but I love the direction you are heading with the BMW!!! Can't wait to see the copper bits done.

Are your electrical bits hidden up under the seat?

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Thanks for the compliments. I have been thinking on adding a fender have some aluminum ones in my garage I mocked up and liked. What I would really like is one of these ribbed copper ones but they are pricey. The only stuff under the seat are the brake light and turn signal lines but they are fed through the frame tubes. They rest of the electrical is in the headlight bucket.
The stuff getting copper plated is at a local guy that has been doing it for decades and I hope it turns out well. He has my toaster tank panels, wheel hub covers, headlight ring, and key switch cover thing. He said it would be about $150 we will see when I pick it up next week.

Re: The Copper Bavarian

I really am liking the look of that. Stop giving me ideas about tearing down my R100.

How do you like the Mikunis btw?

Re: The Copper Bavarian

I love the mikunis, I had the notorious black label bings and I hated them night and day difference.

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Thanks, but I think miob's r80 gets the sexiest airhead award. Perhaps most ruggedly handsome airhead ever...

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Nah, you are giving it way too much credit. Both bikes are build with a very different philosophy, so maybe we just shouldn't compare them.

Love your build very much! Very thorough and tasteful job. Can't wait to see the end result!

By the way (maybe you mentioned it, but I can't find it), you are not going to put the battery under the transmission? I think it would make the bike look even cleaner.

Re: The Copper Bavarian

i like the idea on the fender but think one in copper may be too much, something subtle would work out as well IMO. find out if your coater is willing to accept mail in work. i know our shop could send some work his way!

Re: The Copper Bavarian

The tires are pirelli mt43 they'll make your butt pucker going around corners makes things interesting... I have a back up set of wheels if I need to change them for some more aggressive riding. I wouldn't recommend them unless your just cruising around pretty easy.
Joe I'll see what he say when I pick them up he's a pretty grouchy old bastard. I'm not real happy about the turnover time with him, but he was up front about it 4 to 5 weeks he said and sure enough it'll be five next week. He had some nice work on display good prices and came recommended though.
Miob I do plan on relocating the battery I think it'll make for a much cleaner look too.

Re: The Copper Bavarian

I just came across this post. The bike is looking great! :)

As a fellow BMW owner I was going to say No!!! DONT TOUCH THE TOASTER TANK!!
But I think the copper plating might do it justice.
Are you going to keep it polished or are you going to let it oxidize for that vintage look?

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Just catching up on the build, and I really like where you're headed. I cant wait to see this thing decked out.

Re: The Copper Bavarian

Well I don't know yet I'm letting it oxidize and if I don't like it I will just polish it out. Picked up the parts yesterday, but this week being spring break I'm super busy between my jobs 16 hour days split shifts are killing me so for now a cell phone pics. All so the tires seem to be handling a lot better.
