Coast to Coast
I think the motor will go in easily once I remove the middle mount tabs from the frame. Nothing will be final until I get the rear hub on with a sprocket so I can line everything up.
Yeah, I don't use it all the time, but 2 engines and a few cylinders has offset the cost well.I just bought a brand new one of those and a compressor from a guy on Craigslist for $200. Decided I don't enough use or room and traded it to my welder to finish the work on my 77 CB550 build. Kept the compressor.
Looks like plenty of room, but there is lots of distance between the countershaft and the swingarm pivot if the engine is that far forward. If you were to move it back in the frame, would it move the weight bias too far to the rear?I think the motor will go in easily once I remove the middle mount tabs from the frame. I'm pretty sure if I tried to install it where it sits the head would hit the down tube. So it will be coming back some, I'll have the cylinder and head on when I start laying out the mounts. This was more of a "how easy/hard will this be to get in?" test.Looks like plenty of room, but there is lots of distance between the countershaft and the swingarm pivot if the engine is that far forward. That pretty BA manIt's a harbor freight cabinet I modified with a bucket and trash pump. I followed this video on youtube, but I added 12v "offroad" LED light bars inside.
Yep, I'm waiting on a swingarm pivot bolt and a sprocket. I can't align anything until I have those. I'm also working on a captured rear axle for the hub. I should be able to get the sprocket sitting about where it does with the stock motor or a triumph motor.I think you are right about the head hitting the down tube. Cut the middle mount tabs and slide the engine back a bit.
It's a pretty useful setup, but you have to remember to clean and scrub the cases real good after blasting. That pretty BA man
this is always a good thing to do. and nice job so far. Thanks, I'm expecting this bike to take a while. So using time I'm waiting to save up for parts to do better on the fabricated parts makes sense.
Thanks, hopefully soon I'll get to work on engine placement. I made some spacers to take the cylinders place for mock up. It'll let me have the head on at the right height, but minimize the weight I'm moving around.this is always a good thing to do. and nice job so far.
Yeah, they are in front of the valve cover, so it shouldn't be an issue. It also looks like there will be just enough room behind the motor to squeeze a lithium battery in there. Not a huge amount of extra space at the head, but it does fit. Are you going to be able to get to the spark plugs easily w/o taking the tank off?
