The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

Dammit, got pinged for doing 67km/h in a 60 zone. Which is a feat in itself of course. The location is just before a long incline, and being a 125 burdened with a 90kg rider, the additional momentum surely is justified.

Bugga. Don't trust your speedo.
I think of mine more like an ornament than a gauge . It is out from bottom to top by at least 10 kph. Does not even have the needle sitting on the pin at zero anymore. I also broke a spedo cable

Does anyone have any ideas about the origin of the front hub?

I'm about to order alloy rims (the correct size) and stainless spokes and it would help to know.

No sorry, but have made my bike give up smoking. Jb weld seems to work ok to plug up hole I put in head under spring land for inlet. . Also lightened piston by3.5 grams and removed base gasket. Honed mark out of bore in process so should get good compression figures. Will test ride in a few days but weather is bad here

Crazy,
Apart from the V-Raptor, no ideas about the hub.
Why not count the number of std spokes, measure one (dia and length)and give details to rim supplier.

Alternative downpipe as well.

Thanks lancepar; I've already put together the data to send to the supplier, it was more to satisfy my own curiosity.

It's probably from some earlier small capacity Honda but the only bike from Hamamatsu that I've owned was a 450 twin (and that was many decades ago!).

Evening guys,
Need to pick your brains!
Got my new Ace 125 with only 15 miles on the clock and starting to have problems already. Broke down about 6 times since bought.
Fitted new unrestricted exhaust, upgraded cdi and upgrade jets from 00racing.
Since then, the bike cuts out when warm, which is after about a mile.
I let it cool down then it starts again, for another mile or so, then it cuts out again.
Any ideas.
Really starting to wish I hadn't bought the dam thing.

Cheers Gunny

can't be sure but many of these bikes have heat issues in first 300 kms..sometimes tis settles down after a few more kms on the clock. hoping others chime in on this as you are looking for a better solution. good luck with the bike and persevere as it is well worth it.

have a great time with your new bike Gunny

+1

My 'Ace' didn't cut out but the crankcase would get too hot to touch!
Things improved quite quickly with more miles on the clock.

Not sure if you rejetted yourself or whether the supplier did it. But I found my suppliers mechanic got a couple of things a bit wrong which led to cutting out and the bike being impossible to tune.

1. When removing the EGR gear you need to make sure that the blanking plate and the "plug" in the carb are absolutely airtight. (this was definitely the cause of my bike cutting out and then working again when it cooled down)
2. Also worth checking that the float mechanism is working fine. Check that the metal loop on the end of the float needle is over the metal "tang", not just being squashed by it.

Once these were sorted I didn't look back. Now I can alter idle, lean it off, richen it up at will and it starts and runs reliably.

A random thought:
If you stand the bike straight up with bike cold, is the oil showing near to the high mark in the side window?

Cheers
Richard

Morning gents,

Cheers for the info. Done the egr and plugged the hole with loctite and bolt.
When it's warm it cuts out but sounds like it's running out of fuel. I wait a few mins then it starts again.

Bikes had new plug etc, oils all good.

At work now so will chat later and give you more info.
Cheers guys
Gunny

So perhaps it is not when it is warm, just when you get through one bowl's worth of fuel?

These aren't pictures of Ace carb parts but close enough.

My problem was that the wire was not hooked over the tang. It was just sitting on top of it, which caused all sorts of issues with keeping the fuel level in the bowl at the right level....

Does it have a temp sensor? nope... so it has to be spark or fuel related, I would simply toss the carb for a real Japanese unit and save tons of grief and I would check the valve adjustment to be sure all was within "my" specs, time it and then try to run it in... oh and change oil just to inspect it for gold and silver

Another update , and probably a little late in the day !!!
I have at long last fitted the 150cc barrel/piston/head , I bought off e-bay about 9 months ago. A lot cheaper than a certain English kit for same . Now done about 150k with it all fitted. Started 1st time and a noticable difference. Running clone 26 Mikuni with 20/100 jets. Now gets up a few of the local hills in top without loosing speed , and I can also scare the mums in their SUVs at the traffic lights....even game enough to lane filter to the head of the traffic at the lights , which I would never have considered before. Still need tyres though...Chris...ACT.

Hi All,

After reading a lot about the Ace, I now am the proud owner of a new Ace 125. I ordere some parts from OOracing, including the 303 tuning kit and some other cosmetic mods. While awaiting for it to arrive. Everything came in on the same day, even the ACE.

BUT, ran into some issues:

First of all it wouldn't start, turned out the kickstand sensor is faulty, so i disconnected it. Then it would, but stall out in higher RPM.. which could be normal since the bike is brand new. (only 1km on the meter)

Since i am awaiting my license plate, should arrive tomorrow, i went ahead and removed the EGC. While doing so, the copper tube end that goes near the carburater, which looked glued on, with my first attempt to screw it off, it just broke off.. So now i have a hole, with no room to get rid of the dam screw. Which is open (see my image)

Any ideas on how to remove it, or simply cover it up? Or am i up for a new engine to carburator connection piece thing, which would probably take me some time to install, and puts me back a couple of days, and the weekend is coming up now. Can i cover it up, using a metal ziptie and a bit off rubber, or can it stay open?

Any ideas?

Nico

Nico,
Welcome to the clan bud.
If you get a pair of long nose pliers, you should be able to turn it and remove it, but do it slowly. I did it, then fitted a Allen bolt with a rubber washer, it worked and doesn't leak.

Rest of the guys.
Cheers for the info on my ace.
It was a blocked fuel tap, only a trickle. On cleaning it out there was a bit of swarf in it.
Fitted a jap carb with a pod filter. Now runs ok and runs all the time without cutting out.
Just need to change jets and lift the needle up one ring to make it run a bit better with the unrestricted exhaust.

Welcome aboard nicopotvin!

The hole needs to be blocked, as Caferace1968 says. Even some epoxy filler like JBWeld or similar should suffice.

Picked up my Ace in January this year. Never had so much fun under the speed limit. Had a little fun tinkering too.

So far mechanically I've lost the extra plumbing and re-jetted the standard carb. She sits on about 90-95 kph pretty comfortably ... with a tailwind ;).
I've put on aftermarket blinkers, tail light and mirrors. Also removed the rear guard and stickers.

I'm keen to deal with exhaust next. Wondering if anyone has one of the "factory" chrome non-cat exhausts fitted.
If so, does it yield any improvement in performance and sound?
