Replaced my shocks with ones for a CB250 a few months back, and its soooo much better.

I recently bought the halogen headlight replacement, but I don't like it. Way too bright. A cafe racer headlight should be dull to the degree of being useless and potentially dangerous. All part of the charm!

Hello again, I've just been looking on ebay and come across these rear dampers. eBay item number:231313526988
They are not only the same make I have on but are from my local dealer that I bought mine from. They fit on with little effort (rubber bush's to swap over). Please see attached photo

it could have been in bits in the spare room by now!

next thing is to ring some dealers I guess, I quite fancied one with some mods already done and a few miles under its belt!

The mods that bike had would cost very little and take an afternoon. Second hand bikes can be Cheaper option but owning from new for me was the first from new bike and I knew the bike was all ok.
If you can afford from new they are easy to get mods for especially in gb.

With 2nd hand you can have that nagging concern (specially when riding hard) that the PO has done something inexplicably stupid that you didn't notice. With a new 'Ace' you have a fair idea of the possible fixes that may be necessary, and none of them are threatening to life and limb. If you can afford new it the best option and you will look back on it as the best value for money purchase you have ever made.

But maybe I'm a bit biased!

I guess I was overlooking the potential bodge aspect and trying to skip the run in period and leap a few places in the mods time line.

Having new, and putting all my own work and personality into the bike does seem to appeal far more!
 
I have to agree..Normally I would not buy new. I looked around at various options second hand , and decided that the ace was a very good starting point without the risk of somone elses mistakes. It gave me a great looking base that I could do my own thing and ride without being off the road for weeks at a time. I loved the style of the bike , and then there was the price , and the fact that I could finish the assembly . I was going to put Honda stickers on , but as I read somewhere on this blog ..the ace is good enough to stand on it's own merrits , so I decided to mark it as an Ace...Honda/clone .Now done 242K and slowly getting my motorcycle 'legs' back after about 30yrs without a bike.

be prepared for the new bike to be slow..in standard form.. this is a fact. But ,after a hand full of simple cheap mods,t will double in power and atain a decent top end speed. I have a 250 that mine now out performs . The ace is a great starting point. It will make you smile every time you ride it and grin ear to ear every time you do a modification. A year into mine and about to gear up another tooth. 80 mph here we come!

(ps not a big jump as it does 77 mph now)
 
I've got a list of mods to do!
The exhaust will be getting cut up asap, EGR delete and carb re jet too.

I've been trying to get one on order all day, but my boss is in and each time I try I cant connect.

Slow wont be a problem, I've been riding a friend's James Comet this weekend 8)

Hey f3nrich, actually, I found that taking my time to do the necessary modifications to the bike, was one of the most enjoyable aspects of owning an Ace. Maybe it's just me, I love tinkering. Also, doing it this way, you're gaining invaluable insight on how the Ace performs when stock and how each mod you do improves the bike substantially, which is very satisfying. Plus, you gain a much deeper understanding on how this little bike works, so you can fix any issue that arises in the future.


On another note, my bar end mirrors arrived which begs the question: How to install them?

This are some photos of the bar-end weights that seem to be embedded with silicone or glue to the handlebar.


IIRC, somewhere along this thread, it was mentioned by someone who installed bar end mirrors that they just whacked the weights in to make room for the mirror screws.

I am worried that pushing in the weights might upset the feel of the handlebar, and also my OCD just does not like the idea, as I feel like I could do a better job somehow ;D. Is there any other way to remove the weights? like drilling the center, then pulling them out of the handlebar with some tool? Maybe a bike workshop might have the tools for the job?

And if push comes to shove, how did you push the weights in? did you use any solvent on the silicone/glue around the weights, or just whacked it straight in with a rod and a hammer? Does the handlebar feel to act differently than before?

Any input is appreciated!

there was no noticeable difference pushing the weights in, you dont need to use any solvent, just use a thick rod and hammer and tap them in. leaving the weights in is better then taking them out as they help stabilize the steering. push them in just far enough to get the mirrors on.

cut the ends out of the handgrips making sure there is enough to clear the mirror on the throttle tube side so it dosnt bind up

I know this may not be the correct thread (just asked in another thread) but i am wondering were everybody is buying there aces from crated to there house ? Im from W.A and hopefully getting the 125 very soon.

This is the exact post I used to install mine - I just tapped the weight in until there was enough room to fit the bar end mirrors, in order to keep the weights as close to the ends of the bars as possible.
