My brother Tim, as you may have noticed in the banners, is fund-raising for the Walk for Autism in Toronto.
This is an important cause for us as my oldest son was diagnosed over 9 years ago.
Through education, diet, therapy and the support of family, freinds and schools Logan has gone from a non-verbal, head-banging non-interactive 2 year old, needing a full-time EA in Kindergarten and part-time in grade 1 to finishing grade 6 on the honour role in a non-adjusted program and maintaining that through grade 7. He also skateboards, fences, writes, draws and plays the guitar and clarinet. The transformation has been remarkable and we owe a lot of our success to various organisations who were unafraid to educate parents as to the treatments available even when they flew in the face of accepted medical doctrine.
Chances are Autism affects someone you know. Helping these organisations educate parents and aiding in research will help a significant percentage of the children today become productive members of society and improve their lives and the lives of their families in ways you can't imagine.
Thanks.
