In sweden I am about average payed and pay about 30% in tax. I get free healthcare. Only thing not covered is teeths, Free education, + alot of other stuff.. its a good deal. I dont have to worry and all calculations Ive seen says its cheaper to share some basic stuff than paying it individually..
Hopefully soon we will have dental care high-cost protection as well. Not really a fan of the dental insurance policies we have, its too american and that shit dont work.

I became very ill (food poisoning - thanks Gate Gourmet) in Nottingham a few years ago. EMS was called to drag my puking ,shitting body from a bathroom and haul me to an ER. Two litters of fluids, a night's rest in a "ward" (private room with a better view than my hotel room) and I was discharged. No wheel chair - no escort to make sure I didn't injure myself on hospital property - just dismissed to go my way and advised on how to go down three floors and across the street to catch the free bus to the other hospital, where I was working. I eventually received a bill for ~US$600 which included it ALL, even the ambulance ride. My insurance eventually paid it all. I had wonderful care. Do they have the technology we have in the US? I was there teaching how to run their cyclotron to support their PET scanners!
How so affordable? YOU CAN"T SUE THE HOSPITAL! Our laws are written by lawyers and they are not about to cancel that gravy train. Tort reform would be the only logical first step to "affordable care", but that ain't happening in the USA!
Just got a teeth cleaning here in Mexico. Without dental insurance it cose me $45. My trip to a doctor last November -- turned out to be salmonella -- cost me $25 but it's 100% deductible from my end-of-year taxes, as is the cost of the medicine.
Nature of the business. Any business really. We all, should anyways, have insurance that has to be purchased. My insurance is three times more expensive than it would be if I just had a machine shop. Since I build motorcycle parts, it's stupid expensive.

If I went out and railed against everything I thought imperfect, I'd never have time to have any fun.
I don't particularly have an issue with insurance. I participate in high risk activities, so I pay for good insurance. Those that can't afford insurance, are given it for free, or at a subsidized cost dependent on their income.
Works fantastic, five knee rebuilds and finally a knee replacement all free...okay it wasn’t really free I paid for it with my taxes and for many years I never needed medical care but unless you experience sudden death we all will benefit from universal healthcare eventually
