Hi Mate, Your bikes are a inspiration to me, I love your work... I am but a follower!! Cheers.. Ps, I wished you lived in my neck of the woods, we could share many beers together and I could steal some of your ideas!! Thanks for the heads up on the rectifier btw.

that seat is gonna add a real retro touch to this thing. I cant wait to see how it comes out.

Anytime you make it to Montana, man, the beers are on me! It's really cool to see another guy's take on the VTR cafe idea...it really does look awesome.

I kinda get how people are surprised by the idea of a cafe being built from a late model street bike, but I think its only natural for that to occur. I mean, the cafes were the naked, raced-up street bikes of their day, so taking a naked, raced-up modern street bike and adding some cafe touches gives a nod to the heritage that ultimately produced the machine. Conversely, guys add modern parts to their vintage cafes all the time to have the look and the performance. They start with the look and add the performance. This is the same equation, but in reverse; starting with the performance and adding the look. I love that this bike is crossing the line, so to speak, of what a cafe is. I'm actually surprised we dont see a good number more of these. I guess I half expected the response to this build to be more along the lines of "yes, ive been waiting for someone to do this" as opposed to "hey, i never thought about that." anyway, supportive mini-rant over. Post some pics of progress!!

The tank rocks, bro. Not too long ago, I posted a pic of a bike seen in a parking lot that I
think could be a cool cafe. It's the weird Kaw Versys. It has a trellis type frame and stacked headlights.
I bet once the funky bodywork was stripped off, it would show its inner cafe-ness. :)

Wow. Really like this. I just picked up my youngest bike in the garage (1988 cbr600 F1 hurricane) and this build makes me really think the lady is going to enjoy her new bike after I play with it a bit. Your ride is really looking cool.

you know that would be kind of a cool cafe ! take a few things off here and there , add a few things back .... might be cool if you can find a used one somewhat cheap

Thanks for the input fellas, as I am doing this by myself its hard to get ideas, this is why I use this forum and another to bounce around things with like minded people, be it good or negative. I started with this 2006 bike as I like the linear Vtwin power delivery, they also sound loud and great! I guess now that I am 53yo I have had countless motorcycles, I do appreciate, good brakes that stop you in a heartbeat, I also love suspension that does not put a disc out and when you are doing the "Ton Up" and you dont get thrown to the opposite side of the road if you hit a divot in the road surface... I guess I like the advancement in motorcycles, speed, braking, suspension, handling, ect but I like the old retro styling at this point in life.

I bought the bike I am modifing from the damaged bike auctions for $1000 !! ;)

$1000 for a VTR is so cheap! Even if it was damaged that is still a cheap motor! Loving the look of the bike so far, can't wait to see it all together.

I was looking at the photos with the seat upholstery done and was wondering if you had thought of adding a fine, white pinstripe on the tank at the edge of the red & black? Could tie in well with the piping on the seat? Either way it still looks the goods! Well done!
