Vintage Privateer Smoker (RD350 Race Bike)

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

You know... If you just wire wheeled and painted it yourself you'd be done already. :-*

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Alright, while im rebuilding wheels and the frame is out to powder, lets touch on paint scheme. What do you all like the best. Im going blue, likely a powder blue (that was on my 100) as my main color.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Yep, 2 or 3 where it's at for me

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

Blue.... and make it look like a Suzuki or Honda. I am speechless...... OK , so that's clearly not totally true. :)

Any of those would work. What about the good old bumble bee colors or European Yamaha GP colors of white with a red stripe like this one

or maybe a 78 color scheme

it's more fussy but looks sharp and old / I mean classic/classy.

This would be a pain to paint, but could look good.

I like blue but somehow it seems to lack the excitement of red.

I do like that 78, Ive kinda moved away from the Kenny Roberts look and more toward the vintage privateer look which is what I wanted to begin with. Im not sure you will get me off of blue though. Here is the 100 that I built, and I loved the color, so I want to incorporate it.

There's one of Jussy carrying that bike around too.

Everyone loves them small, to easy to pick up and toss around

Ha, I did the same on the damn GL, I got it all remounted and bolted up to the bike, should have let it sit overnight before I did, now I have a tube ordered and have to pull it all off again.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

So I for $13 a wheel I had someone else do it during lunch today. Should have just done that from the beginning. Tonight I'll get the new bearings in, do a final clean and wait for the frame to get back.

I like to consider myself fairly die hard DIY. I hand mount my road car tires, I do all my own mechanic work, rarely is there a job too annoying or too dirty. The one thing I will not do is mount tubed motorcycle tire. There aren't quite enough swear words in the dictionary to relieve the stress caused by trying to do them myself.

Re: First Vintage Race Inspired Smoker

I'm with ya. I think it was the fourth pinched tube when I said fuck it and took it to a shop. I haven't tried myself since.

Ha, I have done the GL tires 4 times so 8 tires/tubes since I bought it and never pinched a tube until this time, I am actually thinking the tube was too old, I used it for 2 seasons and 2 previous tires. But yes I know they are the devil to do without pinching. I'm 2 for about 16 changes with tubes. so I'll keep doing them until the ratio goes the other way LOL.

That damned GPZ tire that took three of us and a solid hour to change before MidOhio was the last for me haha. I'll pay the couple bucks.
