What does everyone do for their "real" job?

Well i have looked through here and no Truck mechanics. i used to work at a dealership and everyone rode. Granted they rode Harleys. I figured at least over there in Cali there would be a diesel mech that liked cool bikes. I guess I'm the only one in the world. Unless I missed someone. BTW I work on diesel trucks
Peace Travis

Aircraft mechanic at a Beechcraft Service Center. Used to be a dream job until I discovered motorcycles. Now I do whatever I can to get away from airplanes so I can spend more time on bikes. What would we do without them.

Cool thread.
Current status: I run a small farm and offer light fab and welding on the side. Pay is shit, although I get to shovel a bunch. Hours suck. Just the other night a freak lightning/hail storm with strong winds hit at three am. I found myself in open pasture rounding up spooked horses (think bronco busting rodeo clown in torrential rain and lightning). No days off and if it breaks I get to fix it. Most equipment is old, so most of the time if something fails we get to make the parts.
Love it and can’t imagine doing anything else. Farming= priceless.
That sounds awesome. There are some crazy jobs out there but working Gods land sounds like adventure. Keep loving it.

So I just got the e-mail ive been waiting for. If all goes well Ill be telling the construction industry to piss off. Back to the life of a dedicated gearhead/customer service fella. (Ive worked in auto parts, and the hospitality industry (bartender) for most of my life. I have an upcoming interview with a local motorcycle dealership. Ill leave it at that as I dont want to get my hopes up any more than I have already ;), you never know what may happen, but cross your fingers for me if ya could... Thanks all.
The manager finally called me back... Interview with the heads of all departments on Monday... This could be cool!

Thought I would bring this thread back to life since we have a lot of newer members on here. Plus I never really explained what I actually do for a living - just a machinist. Because we have government contracts with the military, I'm not allowed to take pictures inside the building. But here's some from my companies web site:

And while this isn't me at work, this is the type and size milling machine that I run:

Damn Rich... Seems pretty cool man. If only us DTT folks could get access to that place for a couple days! Oh, the parts we could make! ha ha ha

Yeah, we doing everything on a LARGE scale. Go big or go home, right? It's hard to tell in the pics, but the press in the first one is probably 75 feet tall, and the crankshaft in the 3rd pic is almost 20 feet long.

Wouldnt be for a ship engine would it? Or a locomotive? I had a buddy who was a welder in a shipyard in Virginia years ago and he was showing me pics of the engines for the tankers they built. You can almost fit in one of the cylinders... Fucking crazy.

Professional shit kicker here. I go from one labour hire job to the next with no chance of full time work whatsoever as i have done since a major illness pulled me out of a full time job 5 years back. However, my brother in law has a construction business and is taking me on in a month or so and hopefully that'll lead to some long term stuff. Staffy's gonna build kithcens and houses and shit!! Cross the fingers and hope for the best hey?

Actually, I'm not allowed to talk about what we make parts for. At least, not online. But if somebody needs a big piece of steel, we can make it!

And good luck Staffy! It sucks being in that in-between phase. I'm assuming the "major illness" is all better now?
