Been Around the Block
picked up another 70 cb 350 pulled off the alternator cover to check timing because she is really off and as i was letting the oil drain i hear a thud in the catch pan and i find this jewl!

any help would be much appreciated
 
looks like a gear from the starter motor. Pull the electric starter motor and check if there's two gears running off the central main drive. If not, that's your mystery gear.

I don't think thats a part of the bike. It looks like the lock nut from a set of feeler gauges. See photo below.

Thanks guys. The second I saw it that was the first thing that came to mind. Hate to think it traveled all the way down from the top end.
 
hahahahahahahaha! i had my feeler gauge in my hand while i was setting points. im willing to bet when i get home my gauge is missing that! thank you guys so much dj if you are ever in pa i owe you a beer :D

I know @bobdot wasnt right but that was a pretty good guess also... just off of sight... even though his gear was clean as a whistle lol.... gotta love help from the forum..
