voted for Jesse James. still like him though :p not so fond of his bikes, but monster garage was great

haha I love what gas monkey does to cars, they're true mechanics. Paul Sr. Jr are as lame as lame can get. And never liked Jesse's bikes but I give him credit for his fabrication/craftsmanship abilities

Well GMG build what they think is "traditional" but its an unusable cliche at best. ZERO travel front end? really? Dont care how many shots they have of them "riding" it to vagas....I would rather fall down a flight of stairs.
Jr built the same thing as last year, its a art project. Really at this point he should be an architect
Sr had someone draw something kick ass in CAD and then hit print. Yeah its a hella expensive in materials and machines to do that, but really what skill?
JJ at least actually built that bike. personally I hate street fighters and think its ugly as sin, but its once again the only thing that can be called a motorcycle in the contest

Out of curiosity I checked it out for a minute lastnight. Just long enough to see the "bikes".

Jesse James is hands down one of the greatest motorcycle craftsman of our day. That said, the bike he built is ugly as sin. Haha. Cool engineering and amazing fab work, but god awful looking.

The Teutle clowns are a joke. That's all Ill say. Though Sr. does seem like a halfway decent guy. But fuck, I don't know him and he isn't paying my bills so fuck him.

The Gas Monkey dudes seem like the closest to thhe kind of guys I spend my time with. The owner guy is a pretty obvious douche, but some folks let money go to their heads I guess. The builder seems like a stand up dude. And I don't give a damn what anyone says, that bike kicks ass. That's the first real chopper I've seen on these bullshit shows in YEARS.

Not to start a side bar shit storm....hell its only the web and no one takes that seriously right?

The GMG is no more a chopper then this is a cafe

I was really hoping JJ would blow me away, because he is the only fabrication guy building here. No dice. He tried to play JR's game this year, I guess.

The Gas Monkey mechanic is a real salt of the earth guy, but most of the voters only vote for glam rock bull shit, so he is out (and out of his league $$$).

OCC built another motor Tower of Babble. Bunch of over CNC'd crap on a rolling chassis bought from their catalog. Lot of skill and equipment involved on a pile built by committee.

I like JR, and dig his crew. I'm all about building on the lift. But he is a prima donna who drank his own koolaid long ago.

What do you expect from a freak show of a competition where the masses make the final call. THere is no way a bike that most of us would vote for would even make it on the stage. These guys stopped building for the build a decade ago. The guys that are all about the bike are in a garage somewhere building. Sell outs are all you find dancing for cash on TV.

This rings true even in our little world sir. Sickeningly so, believe me.

[/quote] to back a truck full of metal in to a shop and a few weeks later pull out a motorcycle is impressive i cant stand a chopper but "the shoot from the hip i can build anything i decide to" out look he has is rad and he is one hell of a metal worker i would pay attention to any car ,bike, lawn mower or unicycle he built. in my eyes righty tighty lefty lucy is all you need to master to bolt parts together. To look at a truck load of steel and MAKE a bike is something else completely.

Have any of you ever took 4/12inch hunks of cromolly round stock and forged a springer front end?

How is the Gas Monkey bike NOT a chopper? Please explain...

The Gas monkeys built and art project in the shape of a motorcycle

Because of the barely there front suspension? Other than that I'm having a difficult time seeing where that bike is non functional. Or for that matter, any different than many of the choppers that folks have been building for the past 50 years. No, its not a race bike. No its not a pure performance machine. Its a chopper. Half of the point of building a chop is to make something over the top. Somethinga bit wild and crazy. I'm not a huge fan of suicide shifters like they're using but again, that's right in line with the classic bikes of yesterday that they are emulating. Original, no. But its a solidly built traditional American chopper. No doubt about that.

Thanks to Google:

Mo*tor*cy*cle:
noun: A two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals

Yep.....the Gas Monkeys definitely built a motorcycle.

Unlike the other bikes on the show which are (Jesse James' aside) basically rolling art projects. Looks at the riding position on SRs bike. He built a sportbike with a girder front end that you ride in an upright "cruiser" position. JRs pile of crap is further proof that not only does he have about zero ideas of his own, but the ones he chooses to copy are played out and classless (really, flat black with red wheels and white walls?) Jesse's bike probobly hauls ass ans handles great. But it looks half assed to me. Like he wasn't sure wjere he wanted to go with it so he just finished it off. Again, its still probobly a better all around machine than the others. I'd gurantee that simply based on the unbelievable skill of the builder. That said, the Gas Monkey bike hits a nerve for me. Its classic. Itssimple. Its a bike any of us could put together from swap meet finds and long nights pounding tin in the garage.

I agree re: Gmg....the owner is just another loud mouthed rich guy. His bearded buddy is the true talent.

While I agree that a chopper is very different then a race bike. I disagree that a chopper cant be a useable bike.
They were born from long distance american riding. The whole dress up style aspect is lost on me. A bike should be built for a purpose or a type of riding to be done with it.
Yeah choppers have been a buzz word for wild and crazy looking bikes that are impossible to ride. Something just used to ride to the bar and share stories with other guys. Thats all well and good.
You are right the GMG bike is not original, they went for a look and really they got exactly what they were going for.
But to me there is no excuse for making something unrideable for the sake of style. A real builder could get that look and still make it work.

The lack of front suspension isnt something to just be brushed away as no big deal.
I could put blocks in the place of the springs on my car and go on and on about how i have no body roll and its all racecar like now...

To me I see it like I see big dollar street rods. They are building something that they think represents how they did it "back in the day"

Well...

To each there own I guess. Choppers were never really built as "long distance" bikes though. They sure got ridden long distances all the time but that was never really the point. Choppers have always been show pieces. Now, a propper bobber was built for performance. But once the 60s rolled around and the real choppers started rolling out of the Cailfornia, New York and in between shops... It was almost all about the wow factor. Crazy 10 color panel paint schemes. Metalflake paint. Tons of chrome. 36" over springer forks. Apehangers. One gallon peanut tanks. The list of stuff that the og guys were doing goes on and on. They were impractical and grandiose almost as a rule. The were for a way for shops and clubs to show off. That doesn't mean they werent ridden hard by the guys who built them. Just like I'm willing to bet that the Aaron dude from Gas Monkey is hammering on that bike.
