Willow...An Evolution

Re: Willow...An evolution..

Haha, I hear ya Ringo. He's already done that on my plug. He show'd me what Lines I should have had on the square block of foam when I started. Seems I missed a step or two that would have made it much easier. I tried to do too much by eye. It worked out but could have been much easier.
anyhow, might as well show my new ears:

Re: Willow...An evolution..

yeah troy I was talking about away from the cradle to mimic the curve that fix drew. A very slightly curved piece on there would give the sense of an entire curve and just act as the thing that lets you know there are no straight lines. It's purely aesthetic, but you could say it helps the bike slice through the air!

Re: Willow...An evolution..

Troy,
On the rear fender issue if you have access to a lathe you can easily make up 2 dies that will give you the exact ridge you want, The top die would just be a simple roll with the required grove machined in it, and the lower would be a disk that would fit into the grove, if it would have two flats on either side of the raised portion that match the contour of the sides of the fender or at least pretty close, you should be able to roll that without any trouble. try it on an old fender for testing purposes till you get it nailed and then roll away.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

any thoughts towards a 21 up front?

Yes I considered up front and in the back. Had a couple buddies looking for hoops but decided to ditch the idea after considering the price for spokes. I did have a 21" a while back but I gave it away.

Yeah that's what I thought you were saying. I may end up doing that. Thanks

Re: Willow...An evolution..

Rattlecan,
That's a great idea. However I don't have access to a lathe but I decided on a different place to mount the fender anyhow. I was leaning towards tacking in a small dia pipe to the underside of the fender. I think it would have worked. Decided on the new mounting place before i ever got to the point of running the wires in the fender. Thanks for the tips though. That trick could come in handy down the road.

No worries brother. We could be building side by side and they would still end up different. Build on Bro!

I appreciate the kind words mothgils!

Re: Willow...An evolution..

I do have a little bit of an update.
Tank is almost ready for gel. Spent about 4 hours with icing and blocking it all out so its smooth and symmetrical. My filler cap arrived the other day and the tank will need to be build up in that area so the cap will sit flat. I'll grab some pics once its ready for gel.

I did decide that the tank will get mounted from underneath so the top of the backbone will remain clean. That prompted me to not mount the tail light and license plate on teh fender. I really like the upper lines of the bike to not have that stuff up there. It jsut looks so much cleaner. So I rebent the plate holder and cut off the old mounts. Dug out the axle mounting plate and welded it in a reverse to what it was before. It now replicates the arc on the fender strut and hub and best of all when you get back it pretty much disappears. My dad and I lit it up the other night and the damn thing is blinding. It is not LED which I think might be better because you can see the light from a bunch of different angles. It also uses a honey shaped lens that allows the light that allows that better viewing from all angles. I'm very happy with it and will feel very safe riding with this light. On to the pics:

I'm liking the side profile much better now. The top is so clean and I think the strut looks even better with the plate here>

Plate doesn't cover any parts of the frame here and I don't feel it brakes up any of the lines. In fact I think it kinda blends in once you get back away from it

Almost forgot I have the bottom and sides done on the electro box. I still need to make a lid and finish welding everything up. Its plain but it will be hidden just behind the motor and in front of the coils.

Last but not least the breather tube for the tank. the tube is mounted in rubber and I think once the mounts get painted with the frame it will look all that much better. Also I just hand bent the tubing very quickly to see how its going to look. I think I can finetune the bend a little more later

Re: Willow...An evolution..

wow

Loved the fab'd tank Troy, especially with the speedo inset but I dig the newest tank too. As well, I dig the new headlight arms...they fit better over all.
