Willow...An Evolution

Re: Willow

ahh come on i am not trying to jinx anyone... Troy lives in the country, i am not saying to light it up like a x mas tree with leds. just add some more lighting in back... did oyu see my recomendation i sugested? theya re not even 1 inch x 2 inch... i would hardly say x mas tree can still maintain a traditional look and be safe... I dont know i guess it is cause i ride with chops and bobs all the time. fuckn blows when you can not get aheads up they are jamming on the brakes or a touch of fog rolls in and they vanish... this sunday we are all gonna get together and go for a scoot... got 5 of my buddies coming on their chops. if we ride into night ill show you what i mean... we just finshed a sporty chop for a buddy, he has a super small plate mount tail light... ill show you in a pic how at night he vanishes. he is going to try and come by early so we can tap some more lighting into the back, but if we are still finishing up the head gaskets on my bro's wing then we will not have time... gonna be 80's here for the first time sunday!

Re: Willow

I really appreciate the input fellas. As far as the light goes I love it and its staying. It has the same size bulb as my old light. Not sure if it will be enough light. To be honest I'm not too worried about it. I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. Right now I have way too much fabrication to get done.

I did decide that the light needed to be down on the frame. I even flattened out the lower part of the plate holder. Was all ready to mount it.....until today when I got the seat done. The seat looked lonely on there and for some reason the light helps balance it out. Its going on the fender and intergrated with the fender struts.

The seat spring is done. IT is a 750# slipper spring. It is sandwiched between two plates and bolted with 2 grade 8 bolts. The seat pan is only sitting on the spring and can be moved forward or back, nose pointed up or flat....
This is only tacked together but its extremly strong. Could load the entire family on it and take them to the market, haha. Anyhow, the spring is about perfect for my weight. I absolutly love how it feels. I think thr seat sits a tad tall and plan to cutthe mount lose from the frame and move it a little lower.
I appreciate all the kind words and support fellas.

How awesome would it be if license plates weren't required?

Agree 10000%
In my younger days I used to have the back end lights on a switch. Not too smart. Don't ask why...ahaha

Anyhow I moved the seat back and down. Its subtle but better

Beyond stunning Troy. Really one of the most well thought out, and executed motorcycles out there by far. And I mean out there as in OUT there. Not just in our little DTT world.
I have personally seen $20,000+ motorcycles that dont hold a candle to BTC when it comes to style and overall presence.
Cant wait to see it all wrapped up!
Lemme know if ya need anything.

glad you like it Bob. Its been one of those things that was heavy on my mind. The seat is very short and to make it look right I needed to keep the spring short as well. I had a spring I was going to use but it was a 2000# (trailer)spring and when I cut it to length it was waaaay too stiff. So I picked up the 750# (trailer) spring at tractor supply. If it were longer I'd probably need a second helper spring under it.
Anyhow, the perch is the second attempt. I made the first and it was a solid block and visually looked intrusive. It never made it to the bike. This one is much friendlier to the eye. The tubing is sandwiched between two 3/16" plate. The piece on the bottom is to simply offer more weld surface to the frame. The one on top is the perch for the spring. The bolts are welded inside the tubing and also to the under side of the perch plate. Its all pretty bomb proof.

Thank you man. Your words really mean a lot!

Rolled her back out side to grab a few profile pics before putting her back on the stand. One thing I've learned about having a bike 2.5' up on the stand is that it can look different once on the ground.
Anyhow...

Re: Willow

Sheeeeeep shit I'm stoked for you man. That just looks right. Ya know, it conjures up images of a cheetah or greyhound mid-stride, to me. Like it's chomping at the bit to just RUN. Awesome.

Re: Willow

i love this thing.. I think if you where to mass produce this thing and sell it you would do rather well

Re: Willow

Amazing! I see the seat is on a post, how does it not swivel, or have you notched the leaf spring?

Re: Willow

Move the seat down really helped the profile. Man, that's a sexy bike.

Those handlebars are the shit, too.

Great work, as always.

Thanks. The spring is actually on a perch. Its bolted down with two grade 8 bolts. The seat is not bolted to the spring yet. I still need to drill the holes into the spring for that. Drilling hardened sprung steel is no fun at all...
