XS1100 Bob concept

I hope this helps a little Fix. I'm hoping you can make what you need from these. Let me know if that doesn't work.

I'm just hoping that I provided enough so that you can cut and make it how you want to. If there's an issue, I'll see about bending up some more stuff for ya. Sending today!

Nothing awesome to report yet, I'm planning on getting in the garage tonight to get the measurements finalized. Once I've done that the plan is to take the hoop pieces to my step-dad's place and weld them together. I just haven't been able to get into the garage. I did get a few seconds just to hold the hoop up to the bike, and I almost wonder if a brat seat would be cool.

I'll keep you posted.

PS Thanks again for the help, Bruno!

I think my garage is finally thawing out. I snuck out and pulled the carbs to confirm stock jetting before I ordered new jets. They should be here tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get the carbs rejetted this weekend. I still haven't gotten my lazy ass over to my folks house to get the hoop welded. Time's running out til good riding weather hits.

Here's where we are. Love it? Hate it? Love to hate it? I'm actually kinda digging the sissy bar, but I don't know if it works with the fairing. I may be taking the fairing off. I just need to keep looking at it til I make up my think-place.

As if I really needed an excuse to finish faster, my wife let me convince her to go look at bikes. I'm hoping to get her to a MSF course in the next few weeks. Then the quest for a bike for milady begins.

That tank looks nice. And to be honest I really don't mind the sissy bar either...which is usually a thing I would not like to admit! I will say that I like it without the front fairing though.

fix what about making it quick release for when you tour? i think that sissy looks Ridiculous on your scoot man. looks like you used part of your lawn furnature on it. I do however respect the usefullness of a sissy bar on long trips, hell i have them on my bikes... but they are all quick release. just an idea bud
i fn love that tank

ooh ya! why not leave the fairing and still rock the lane splitter bars, i am a big fan of those low rise apes. look great and are super nice to ride with...
i think if you where to drop the front end 1 - 2 inches, (cut spacer and add top out spring) toss on those lane splitter bars, ditch that sissy, bob that front fender, and gloss black or even shoot the fairing in "chrome" spray paint... that it would really look nice..

by bobing the front fender i would not chp it all up, just shorten it a touch front and rear
i did that on my date bike in college, loved it, this bike also had a quick release sissy bar (4 bolts and it was off and on)

Thanks for being honest Joe. I really do appreciate criticism as much as praise. The sissy is on a quick release, it's just got some set screws for now. I won't be able to really make a final decision til I get the frisco bars and rear fender. Those will really help me decide the look overall. That being said, half the reason I like the sissy bar is hauling capacity (the DTT GTG is weighing heavy on my decision) the other half is that it's just so gawddamned 70's that it makes me smile.

Oh yeah, and that front fender for certain is too big. I just don't really have anything to cut it up, and I'm loath to run it. The front forks on these twist way too easy without some kind of fork bracing. Ideally, I'll get a fork brace and a spare front fender to shop up, but money is always tight. I'd really like to get a bobbed rear on it, but I may have to hope a flat trailer fender looks good, cause they're orders of magnitude cheaper.

Right now this bike looks like all it wants to be is "cafe" or sport and thats not bad at all, the tank and fairing look awesome... I wouldnt try and go quasi "bobber/chopper" or "brat" or any of that with the sissy bar or frisco handlebars. Lose the sissy bar, mould a rear fender that flows with seat and this bike will be very attractive.... Anywho just my .02.

Thanks for the feedback B&C. I need to do something with it tho to make it a more comfortable riding position. We'll see what happens I guess :)

Since we're all throwing in here.....

Bro, I really really hate that sissybar on your bike though like Joe I can appreciate the utility when it comes to strapping stuff on for a long scoot.

Were it mine (and it's not so take this with a grain of salt) I'd sling a severely chopped down fender at the back...say 6" peeking out behind the seat and a small tail light back there. Since it looks like the ends of your seat frame rails are open you could easily fab up a small(er) 'utility bar' that could be slid into the frame and located with a couple of linchpins. Chop the front fender back and paint that fairing silver/chrome etc and you're dialed. That bike screams "454 Chevelle....EAT IT BITCHES!!!!"....not "I'm a Chrysler minivan, want a YooHoo?".

This made me actually laugh out loud :)
I'll do some mock-ups in photoshop tonight when I get home from class. I still have the hoop parts Bruno graciously bent up for me. What I might do is set the hoop up with pins so I can swap in the sissy bar for long-haul situations. The little stubby fender I was using is probably too short (tho I did dig it) but I'm trying to find a decent fender for the rear. The front fender is definitely not remaining as-is.

If I don't go with the frisco bars, I will certainly need to find some kind of cheap riser to pull the current bars up and back a bit.

Anyone have a line on cheap rear fenders and handlebar risers? The 9 hour ride to the DTT GTG has me very comfort concerned.
