XV920 "Short Bus"

Just about exactly like that, PJ - but I hope you'll excuse me if I dont' do the blue and yellow anodized bars :D

They were the cheapest I could find, didn't want to cut up 'expensive' ones it case it was a total disaster,it still may be ;)
Ain't saying what colour they are going to be when I eventually get back to the XS'800' ;D
I put a fly-cutter in the mill to open up the key position to speedo diameter then drilled a couple of little mounting holes

Getting colder up here, and I've been working on the bike little by little. Parts have been coming in - thanks to Brad, Dreadrock and Yinzer - and the plan to have it back together for a second trip to Kentucky in May.

Ninja 500 fork legs shaved - I'm thinking seriously about running solid fork covers, and this helps make the decision easier.

Engine is painted satin black; the side covers, starter, and some drivetrain parts will be semigloss.

Ninja front wheel - there you go, everybody. The big front wheel and long forks are out of the picture.

I have a set of polished bolts for the engine; those pizza pans are going over the rear wheel so it'll look like a solid rim.

The backbone, subframe and swinger are painted - next couple weeks I'll get the tank into the paint booth.

I like the Goldwing - but I miss my fun bike. Back to it.

Oh yeah - forgot these. I got a stock Fat Boy exhaust system for the slipons. Let me know if anybody wants the headers, those and the heat shields are in perfect shape.

There are three shields - one for each down pipe and one over the collector/cat.

I'm not sure if it'll work the other way around, but I've used (and plan on using another on my current one) a virago wheel on my seca turbo. Slipped right on and gave me a little more acceleration because of the reduced wheel size.

I appreciate that your first post on this forum is about Virago wheels. Wow

Anyway. Painting:

I should note that my local student radio is playing Wu-Tang and Motown hits.

Here are the wheels I'm using. Rear will be covered up; will need a higher sidewall front tire to keep within the steering geometry I'm expecting. If I have my calculations right - much thanks to cycle-ergo.com - I will actually be pretty close to standard sport bike rake and trail.

Not sure if it applies to the 920 but I have an 82' 750 rear rim ( shaft set up) if you ever need an extra. I'm glad to see some more progress on the build, man. You are persistent.

PS- Wu Tang forever.

Great build rich, just read through all of it!!!got a question though... The rear shock you got was from a 94 yzf, earliest I can find in UK is 96!!! Is it the same? Got the same bike.. wanna bin the original!!

Nope - that's why I chose the one I did, to avoid the remote reservoir. I believe the later shocks with the reservoir will fit.

Interesting thread for sure. Definitely some back luck throughout. Mine had some issues, but nothing like yours.

For the starter the Rick's starter is a million times better than the stock one. Sounds like MUCH faster rock crushing! lol. Funny thing I was testing my harness splicing the other day. I was sitting by the starter, pre-cringing for the starter button test with the starter so close to my face.. I think mobsters should have one in the back of their hideouts to get people to talk.. "all right Joey, if you don't talk we will put your hand in the left side virago case!!"

Did you end up keeping the ninja rectifier on the bike? Just asking cause I have an anti-gravity batt on mine.

I plan to put the MOSFET r/r back on as I'm going back to a Lithium battery.

Crap, forgot I'm another hundred dollars away from having this done!

Pizza pan wheels. That's pretty damn creative Rich. Engine looks great also.

Two guy's :
So bro, where did you get that rear wheel?
Awe man, I fabbed it up myself.
Bro that's bitchin' man!
Yeah man like from a pizza pan, understand?
you're the man, you're the man. Do you have any of the pizza left?
