72 CB750: Dolores... 5 years later, I'm back to work!

I got my baffle in the other day. I was so excited, then when I went to put it in the megaphone I realized that it was the same diameter as the end of my megaphone. So utilizing the help of some friends and their tools We cut about a half of an inch off the megaphone with a bandsaw. Then I riveted the baffle into the megaphone. The result looks like it could have came that way. I also had to remove the tag and rebend it to fit lower on the megaphone. Then I reriveted the tag to the megaphone. The bike sounded great.
Now I was only putting the exhaust on because I blew a baffle out of my drag pipes and was unable to relocate it. The bike felt a good bit quicker and more even running, even without being tuned. Then about 20 miles after I installed the exhaust my rear tire blew. I knew it was close, but it still sucks. So I started tearing that sucker down. I have just gotten my garage ready.
Got the 350 situated in the garage too.
And my parts shelves seperated into 350 and 750. I still haven't organized the parts.
Then the parts started coming off! The cowl was disassembled becuase I'm going to be remaking my seat out of fiberglass.
I removed the carbs and cleaned the exteriors with some carb cleaner and a toothbrush.
I also ground the helmet holder tabs off of the rear hoop to make the seat cowl fit tighter and closer. I used a dremel tool with a cut off wheel.
And did some more cleaning
And here's how she sits now. My next projects are installing the jets and adjusting the needles. And fiberglass. I'm about to kick this sucker into high gear. I want it done so I can tear into the 350.

Okay so I did a little work this afternoon. I've been staring at a stock oil filter cover for a few days. So I took it off the wall, drew some lines in sharpie and started cutting fins off. I cut it with a dremel tool with a heavy cut off wheel. I'm thinking of trimming the center fins that I left uncut, then turning the cover sideways when I mount it. I'm also thinking black with polished fin tops... What do ya think?
Didn't take very long and wasn't difficult. Do you guys think I'm hindering my cooling very much here? I've still got a good bit of finish work to do getting everything smooth and pretty.

I shouldn't need to Joe. The 750's don't have any serious overheating problems that I'm aware of, and I'm leaving the motor internals stock. Just changing intake exhaust and carb tuning. I'm thinking that an oil cooler might be overkill for my bike... But if it turns out otherwise I'll definately be at work on a cooling system. Opinions?

LOL Thanks guys! I finished the cover and it looks nice. No pics as of right now though. My wife's mother is sick so she's gone to Tennessee for a while. She's got the laptop... So It'll be a minute before I can upload pics again. I'm at my office right now checking up on everything. I've made a cardboard mode of my seat pan and am ready to glass it I think. So the next update will have the finished cover and hopefully a nearly finished seat. Thanks again for the kind words on the cover. And Jay, brother I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't want everyone here to have access to it! I'll do a 50 dollar mod write-up on it when I get the finished pics uploaded.

I'll be using the old cowl Joe. I just can't let go of the outboard motor seat thing! I'm just rebuilding it to be smaller thinner and lighter. To be honest when it's done you probably won't notice any difference between the new one and the old one.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores... Lots of Progress on a New Seat & Final Pics of Filter Cover
Haven't had much time to work on the bike lately but that's finally started to change. Here are some pics of the oil filter cover done. I'm going to end up painting it ultra low gloss black and polishing the fins. I'll also be mounting it sideways.
I've also started my fiberglass seat project. I built a buck of sorts for the pan out of cardboard. Then I covered it in saran wrap and started going to town.
Then I did a little bit of cutting and test fitting the cowl to make it line up with the new pan.
After some trimming on my old upholstery pan I realized that I need to make a new one for this new seat. I'll get to that once the seat is done.
Next I attached the cowl to the pan via six pop rivets that have been slightly counter sunk. I'll cover this area with a layer of glass and some body work later. I also laid the sides of the seat. I brought them up almost 1/4 inch above the pan. I did this to hide the bottom of my upholstery pan where the leather will fold under it. Then I laid glass layers in between the new rails to tie everything together and strengthen the pan. I also made some humps in the seat pan for the bolts on the battery box. This helps the seat sit lower on the frame rails. Here are the pics. I've got one more glass session left, then I'll start slinging bondo.
I'm also still sorting parts and getting ready to get started on the 350 cafe project... My garage is a happy place for me right now...
