I highly encourage you to stay away from the roll on man it gives a really lousy finish... plus it is a pain to work with!!!
I highly recomend that you use rustoleum bed liner spray... it works great i have used it many many times!!!

I've got the spray on on some stuff. The same brand and everything, but I like the thickness and texture of the rollon. I want it to look rhino-lined like the bed of a truck and the spray on just doesn't have the right look or feel to me.

what you may want to look into is some spray on rubber undercoating... i just shot my whole undercarage in my jeep last week and have to say... it was really really a cool finish! i used permatex rubberized undercoating on mine. was cheap for a few cans... the finish is awesome, it is very durrable, has that "bed liner type finish" and will not be an issues to wash it or get rags stuck to it... I liked it so much i did hte lower body trim on my jeep in it to prevent rust. jsut an idea

I'll have to check out that undercoating! I'll go get a can and spray something with it to see if it'll do what I want. Yeah the roll-on will be a bitch to clean and that has been something that I've been worrying over. Thanks bro.

i recoat my truck every 2 years... it really holds up well, bearin mind that i live in chicago and they salt the roads here, take about 10 trips a year to the upper up in the middle of winter pulling a snowmobile trailer, do off road on occasion (mainly to get in back to get out the trailers that others can not get to) and it looks great every year when i get under there to redo it... lasts a long time! i also do my wheel wells, coils, shocks(they are booted so i do not hit the shaft) and axels and what not... under my truck looks like the day it rolled off the line!

So on Wednesday night Dolores and I were cruising over the bridge going off of the island when she died. She lost all of her electrics. As I was not halfway up the hill made by the bridge I had to push her back down . There is no bike or breakdown lane on this bridge. Normally this wouldn't have been a real problem but there are lots of tourists in town this week (Thanksgiving). Traffic was insane and I couldn't get the bike turned around so I began to push her backwards. The only space I had was the gutter about six inches from the roadway and about a foot wide. Traffic was blowing by inches from me and my girl. The push was a little more than 200 yards. After what seemed like hours of this hell(more likely about ten minutes) I got her off of the bridge and into a parking lot. At some point during the madness I hurt my right shoulder pretty badly. I was headed to my dad's house when she broke down so I called him and he brought his truck. We loaded her up in the bed and he loaned me the truck. Right now she's still sitting in the bed of the truck, waiting onme to unload her and figure out what happened. Most likely a wire has grounded and blown my fuse. I hope.
At this point it doesn't matter. Once my garage is cleaned up and sorted from the recent remodel project Dolores is going down to the frame. She'll have her heart re-ringed and all of the gaskets replaced. The carbs will be disassembled, cleaned, and rejetted for cone filters and the new 4into1 exhaust I've got. She'll get her new tires put on (Thanks again Eileen). I may make a new seat for her or remake her current one. I'll do some more work on the bodywork on the tank. I'm sure there is more but you get the picture. She's going to be reborn again. This will be the first time that the motor has been out of her since I've had her, and I plan on doing a lot of work on the motor, polish, paint, etc. So that's what's up. Stay tuned for the third (fourth? fifth?) stage of this project. Hopefully this will be the final stage as I've located an airhead beemer for my next project.

Ian: I haven't had the heart to unload her and figure out the problem yet. The Iron Bowl was today (War Damned Eagle!!!) and I've been drinking since kickoff at 1:30. But as soon as I find the offending wire I'll post it here!

I have been quietly assembling parts to begin the rebuild. So far I've got the exhaust, Eileen's old tires, A steering damper off a late model Gixxer, and some 2 into 1 K&N vintage filters that I bought on the gamble that they'll fit my bike. About to place a big order tonight including my cdi coils and wires, DCC's damper mount, ebay gasket kit, jet kit, a baffle for my new exhaust, and possibly some progressive front springs. It's about to get fun! My step-son's bedroom project is just about finished. That means mid January I should have my garage in order and all of my parts waiting for me to jump in! Some part pics...
Big things to come! I've also decided to rebuild my seat, completely out of fiberglass this time and a little bit skinnier and shorter. Also polishing lots of things. I hope I can get all of this done in time for spring riding.

Might end up building a new seat entirely. But out of another outboard motor cowl!
While at the family farm I went junk hunting and I found this beauty under a pile of old plow parts next to a big oak tree.
Yeah... it's aluminum. I don't know if it'll work for Dolores yet but I'm going to get it home and see about it.

I got the aluminum cowl blasted and then decided that it just won't work on Dolores. Oh well. Here's a pic anyway, it will probably end up on my next project.
I've been getting some parts in and here they are:
Got my damper (ebay) and damper fork mount (DCC)
The damper is a little shorter than I had anticipated so I'll have to figure out some creative mounting.
Also got my fork dust boots in (DCC)
I got my jet kit from 6 sigma racing (see the jet thread over in loungin)
And I got my new throttle assembly from dime city. I'm going to be eliminating the controls on the right handlebar, so this will clean that side up nicely.
And I found something really neat in my parts stash. I eliminated the tach on my bike, but didn't have anything to plug the hole with, so I left the cable in and bent it inside of the tank tunnel, then secured it with zip ties. Ugh. So I was looking at this Hondamatic head that I've got laying around and, Hello! A factory plug for just such a hole!
Also while I was picking through junk at the family farm I found an old taillight with a bullet lens. And it fits right in the hole for my taillight.
So I'll clean that up and figure out how I want it mounted. Just stuck in there like that, the bullet has an upward angle that I'm not sure if I like. I may end up frenching it in a little bit.
Also I wrapped up the addition to my house! Robbie's Room is done. Now I can move on to the garage and the bike. The room looks great and I'll be posting up pics of it somewhere here.
The biggest news of the day is that I fixed Dolores! I got her running and took her for a ride this afternoon. It was just a problem with the fuse block. A simple one. The fuse had come loose and the fuse lost contact, thus killing the electrical. So simple. I figured it out in about ten minutes. I felt kind of dumb for not getting the bike out and fixing it sooner.

This will be one of her last rides before she gets torn apart again. I can't wait to get my hands dirty on her again.
