CB360 Cafe Project

Ok. So, I think I drilled one too many speed holes in my battery box. Lol. I thnk I'm going to remake that one.

New electrics tray I made up to hold the rectifier and regulator, also hide the wires. I made a heat sink for the rectifier too. The rectifier is just a radio shack style.

So, I got it all wired up (just the ignition/charging ciruits) and I got some FAT blue spark. Totally stoked.

I just can't wait any longer to get this thing running. So, instead of wiring my lighting circuit, I think I'm going to get my carb kits/jets/filters ordered, and maybe make up some exhaust baffles.

Alright! I have some orders coming in this week. Fuel line, fuel filters, petcock gasket, and some UNI two stage air filters all coming in from Dime City Cycles. Two jet kits and some spare main jets from Jets R Us.

I have to pull the rocker cover back off to fill the oil baths and add some sealer. Then I can adjust valves, point gap and timing. After that, I should be good to go. I'm praying that my orders come in by Sat. so I can fire this thing up. Pending no other issues of course.

I got everything pretty much ready to go. Oil baths filled and cover sealed, valves adjusted, and point gap/timing pretty close.

I was prepping my carbs last night for the rebuild kits and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on removing the float valve seats?

I grabbed on to them with a pair of needle nose, but couldn't get a good enough grip to pull them out, even if they were new. An easy out/screw extractor crossed my mind, but I don't want to start tearing stuff up before I look for a better method.

Mine came out with needle nose so I donno what to say took a little wiggling though, you have replacements right? Just run a screw into them or an easy out and they should pull right out.

Sometimes when I don't have anything immediate to do on my bike, I just sit and stare at it, in a moto trance. I look at the things I've done and have to do and try to improve on them. While waiting for the rest of the parts I need to get this thing running, and in the moto trance, I came up with a neat idea for a return spring on my rear brake lever.


Started out with this...

I took off the spacer and dug out my original return spring...

Then I marked a spot where I wanted to cut a slot, about the width of the speed holes I drilled previously...

and cut out a slot with several different dremmel bits and cleaned it up later with some files...

Then I went back and heated up the spring w/ a regular Mapp gas torch to turn this little keeper pointing out side the spring, to point inside the spring.

Here's how it ended up... Oh yeah, Happy belated Cinco de Mayo everyone!!!

Now they fit together like this...

I then had to heat up the other end of the spring to wrap around my lever correctly. Here's how it turned out.

Now all I have to do is create a stay for the lever, so that it doesn't return to far. Right now there's nothing to keep it from rotating backwards. I have another neat little idea for that one. I'll see how it works out this weekend.

Nice handiwork...hahah moto trance. I do the same thing. Now that my bike is mostly done, I am always itching to get my fingers dirty.

CrazyPJ, I think utilizing the original brake arm pivot is a better way to go, instead of flipping the drum arm and crossing the linkage over the swinger, as I did. I've been looking at it as something to tinker with in the future.

Not only that, but this CB breathed fuel for the first time in about 28 years. Pretty excited to start her up. It's not easy to work on something for, uh about 8 months now (?), and never hear it run.


Here's how it sounded. I can't figure out how to embed the video, (Is it still the button under the "Italics" on the toolbar to embed youtubes, cause that one doesn't seem to do it), so here's the link.

In the video it's just bench tuned. Throttle response is pretty bad there, but timed it in yesterday and it ran a lot better. Unfortunately I don't have a chain yet, so I can't see how the motor runs under load.


I will be adding baffles to the pipes also.


Here's a pic with the carbs/filters on. I was concerned about the battery taking up too much space in the "triangle", which I wanted to remain as wide open as possible, but I don't think it takes up too much space. I'm happy so fa on how it's turning out. Still got a ways to go though.

Yeah it it works lol. That is how you embed them, the add hyperlink gets the vid and embeds it.

Lol. Yeah, the riding position is pretty gnarly. As I told my buddy the other day, there's only one purpose this bike will serve....To drive about a mile into town, on a Fri/Sat night, do a lap around the town square, stop at the liquor store to fill my back pack with anything that comes in a 30 pack, and cruise back home to my bonfire.

Actually, I could just strap the dirty thirty to my triple clamp and rest my chin on that. Perfect!

I haven't worked anything out yet, but I'm gonna try making some out of copper pipe/fittings and 4T exhaust packing. I'll see how that turns out. If that doesn't work out, then I might end up adding a collector and a pipe.

I have had an idea for a tail light locked away in the back of my mind for a while now. So, I've been playing around with it for a week of so now and this is what I came up with.

That's right, it's an old piston. Originally I wanted to use single LEDs, mainly because I have a handful of really sweet stainless steel LED holders that I pulled off of a prison control panel, from a job I used to have. I also had already purchased this sealed LED trailer light. After building the 'loose' LED circuit, of 12 LEDS, I just wasn't satisfied with the maximum light output. The trailer light has just three of the superbright, square style LEDS, and it is BRIGHT. Once I got the trailer light install I was struggling with a way to hold the light in the piston and also how to mount the assembly to the tag mount. You can see what I came up with. I have to swing by Fastenal and get SS hardware, what you see in there now is just temporary.


I haven't begun to wire any of my lighting circuit yet, but will soon. Here're some more pix of the light and tag mount.
