It was like Christmas today! My tires, grips, bolt kit and velocity stacks all showed up within about 10 minutes of each other. Ha ha. Just waiting on my rearsets now. Too bad its too cold to go out and do any work on it today... >:(
I feel your pain Corey. I can remember getting a new bike (bicycle) for christmas when I was little. Had too much snow for about a month. It about killed me.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Ya I hear ya there, that was always the case for me too when I was little. I'm just waiting for my rearsets to get here to see how they will work. Then I should be able to tear it all down to get the frame going. I need to weld in the electronics tray and a tray for the battery. Then wait for some warmer weather to start painting stuff.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Well not much of an update, but I decided to go for shortening up the seat I got. I took 3 inches out of the front of it and I'm glad I did. It flows much better with the bottom of the tank and also shortens up the look of the bike. I'll have to get some pics tomorrow. My camera is dead and the gf is waiting to go out to eat. I'm trying to warm my hands and toes up now. Stupid cold weather!!

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

My rearsets showed up today and also a new H4 headlight. I think I pretty much have everything now that I need. I need to get the electronics tray and battery tray welded in. Other than that I cleaned up the front fork bottoms today with some oven cleaner and steel wool. I'll be doing that to the engine cases on Wednesday or Thursday since we are suppose to get back close to 50 degress :o It looks like I should be able to get everything done before it gets warmer enough out to do the painting I want to do. Then get it all back together and get it on the road.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

I see you sent your winter down this way. We actually got an inch of snow. It didn't stick to the roads but they closed schools today anyway. :D Pansies

Man, at this rate, you will probably be riding before I do. Still trying to convince my dad to bring my bike down. :(

That sucks, I was just going to sent you a message and see if you had gotten your bike there yet...

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

I got sick of sitting inside so I put on a hat and some gloves and went out to the garage yesterday and today. I got the fork bottoms polished up and took a wire wheel to the top and bottom tree and risers. Trying to get a few things ready for some paint on Thursday.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Nice! And pictures too lol!
I have yet to take my bike fully apart. I'm still waiting on the float gasket to arrive so I can try and bring my bike back to life. My tank is currently undergoing electrolysis. Good to see you're making progress though! I need to catch up!

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Ya I'd be a lot more motivated if it wasn't to cold to paint outside. I've just been doing a little each day to keep me busy pretty much. I think my next step is get the linkages figured out on my rearsets and the position of them. I want to get everything like its going to end up then tear it all down and clean and paint the frame.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Weather here has been so hit or miss it's ridiculous. Warm one day, freezing the next and the warm days are never when I'm not working. Gotta get a move on, so I can finish.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

I listed them in the great deals section a week or so ago. I'll put it in the rearset section as well though. As long as they are comfortable mounted in the passenger peg spot I should be able to drill 2 holes in the other part of the passenger brackets and have 3 bolts holding them on. They line up perfect with that bracket. Just trying to figure out the linkages now. I bent some 5/16" rod for the brake side last night. I need to get a clevis though and thread the rod still.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

those things are beautiful!
Hey man, rear sets are such a huge topic on this forum. Please post as many photos as you can, even if things seem to be pretty standard. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say, "let's see how you did your rear sets." Post um up. ;D
Looks like easy-off did a good job for ya. Later, Troy

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

Allright a few pics of the rearsets. I think I've got the brake side hooked up. It works by spinning the wheel and stopping it. I'll have to wait to see how it performs while actually riding. My only concern is when I press the pedal the linkage rod moves up a little before it goes forward to pull the brake. I also picked up an HID headlight kit for $15 shipped on ebay! Not sure if the charging system can handle it or not, but I'll give it a shot. If not I'll change out one of the lights on the ruckus for it.

The rod I bent for the brake linkage, I forgot to take a pic after I cut it to length and then threaded it.

All hooked up!

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

I still need to drill out holes for both of the front holes on the mounting plates. I'll have to get to that tomorrow. As far as the shifter side instead of ordering a $20 piece that connects to the shifter shaft, I'm going to cut the old one off the original shifter. The original shifter was all bent up anyway. I should be able to cut it off and leave an inch or so of the lever. Then drill a hole in that and connect the rod to it. If that makes any sense at all.. ha ha

I forgot to say that on the brake side I drilled out the hole in the small piece that holds the rod to the brake drum lever. I also drilled out and retapped the brake adjuster nut to fit the bigger rod.

Re: CThor's 1972 CB450

I don't have the tank on, but I took a pic of the seat sitting on there after I cut 3 inches off the front of it. It was just a little too long to me the way it was before.

those rear sets look dead sexy :D yer bike is looking damn good

i just drilled out my original shifter shaft, i have not cut if off yet, drill the hole low on the shifter, you will have a lot less headache ,i know from experience :)

also make sure your kick start lever clears the brake lever on the rear sets, found that out the hard way too :)
