Pulled the carbs off Johnny 5 today and did a little tuning on them. Added the Randak suggested washers under the needles (no clips on them - you just put the washer under the head to lift it a bit). Polished slides (again) changed one air jet from a 130 to a 120, and changed all low air jets from 120 (correct for the '78 engine) to 110 (correct for the '77 carbs). Made it so much better! Let's ride!

Rode the '78 (Johnny 5) rescue to a car show about 33 miles away. Harley baggers and scooters was all they had 2-wheeled. Ran fair - still stutters some but pulls hard and pulls away from a stop smoothly. Also very mild backfiring, sometimes even burps at idle. After I got home, I got almost a full turn on all exhaust nuts, so that might be part of it.
There was an open invite to ride along with the Harley marketing manager to this show. Since the shop was on my way, I stopped off and then rode along with her (the others that were supposed to go must have partied too hard last night she said). Only about 10% there were masked. I kept my distance most of the time. She got in trouble, though.

Led a seven bike ride this morning from Time Warp Tea Room to Lenoir Museum at Norris Dam State Park (another dam ride). This qualified Johnny 5 and three other bikes for our 20 in 2020 Challenge. 25.2 miles out 25.2 back. Then I went to church on tbe way home. Bike is running ratty, but running for 100 miles today, so I'll get it. Really think timing may be off again. Idles great, accelerates hard, cruises rough and sounds like a log truck when I back off.

Rode the '79 yesterday to the TWTR for bike night. Decided on the way home that it was comfortable to ride the long way home over Norris Dam, so put in about 100 miles on it. The '79 is running great! I'll get back on Johnny 5 tomorrow after outside chores. Wife is working every day and her garden is all coming in so I have to pick beans and tomatoes and maybe mow (but lack of rain is stunting the grass, so maybe not.

Well, so far I've probably put about 500 mikes on it. Tweeked things in pretty well. Did the qualification ride for our challenge, so it is now for sale. I'll list for a little more on Marketplace, but I've put $1660 in it, so that is the minimum. Mileage is probably ~75,000 but since the odometer gear was stripped out on the old one I'm not sure. Compression is great and it has new head stock bearings, all brake calipers and masters rebuilt, new front tire, new two-tone paint with 2K clear coat. Of course carbs rebuilt and timing belts changed. They are '77 carbs and a bit too much for the engine, but starts Ok and quickly comes off choke to idle well. Some aftermarket items like radiator cover, turn signals, and for some unknown reason a '79 tail light. Seat was a K&Q that I cut and reshaped (plus added) foam and covered with a '79-'79 aftermarket cover. Also redid the bad naugahide on the shelter door. Frame repainted Rustoleum Appliance and the center stand cross member replaced with one from a '79.
If somone wants to trade, I'm only interested in a TW200 or a 350 or 400 RD. Tennessee title in hand and it is presently licensed and insured.
