Project Sake Bomb....1978 Yamaha XS750 Cafe Racer

westside cafe

Life is a blur at this point.
Found this neglected triple on the ole' CL for 600 bucks running with a title! Couldn't pass it up. We are going to see what we can do with her for less than 2k.

check out yamaha-triples.org. They have a ton of useful info and some great users with experience on maintaining and modifying these old triples. I owe them all the beer in the world for all the help they have given me.

Thanks guys! We are moving along pretty well on this pig. And yamaha triples has been a great source for manuals. I would recommend that site for anyone who has a triple and is in need of direction. More pics of the build so far below. Just before breakdown, getting it ripped apart, and the ensuing aftermath of parts.

Here is a shot of how far we decided to take her down. Gotta love cheap labor! Before and after 4 cans of high heat spray bomb. Ghetto fab is how we roll.

Most of the parts have all been sandblasted at this point. Just the tank left to do after all the mock up is complete. That is our "blast boot" aka our Kill room for all Dexter fans. LOL ( the tank on the right is for Zach's cb750 project King Midas)

Parts are starting to trickle in. Some clip on bars and gauges thanks to eBay.

Stock wheels made purdy again. Should look pretty good with the white letter tires we plan on using.

Got the seat in from Roc City and it looks great! Forks are put back together and working on the wiring. Picked up an oil cooler of a bike at the junk yard. Its an old lockhart and should help keep the oil temp cool in this blistering heat.

So those guages plug in and work right out of the box? If they do, they'd be the first I've seen.

Nope lol Everything always needs something modified. We are going to just cut the wires we need and solder to the old connector. Also going to build a custom bracket for them. I'll keep you posted as to how they end up working.

Rustoleum High Performance enamel. Tying to show that spray can is a realistic option with some patience and practice!

True that!!! my whole bike is an example...you cutting off the tailight support? I had to get rid of it, interfered with my new seat.
