Restomodding a 74 CL360

And how do I switch out the diaphragms on this thiing? Now that I'm thinking about it, the holes line up where the diaphragms meet the slide. I think if I can get them out and reinstall them, I can be back in business. And yes, I did search, but couldn't find anything useful.

Just for grins, I pulled the carbs and superglued the tears shut. Hey, no bogging down! I'm mailing the money to JBM tomorrow.

ETA: The reason I asked if the holes were supposed to be there is the tears are identical in size and where they are on the diaphragms.

just so you know. upon reassembly of slides. The new diaphragms wont have the little alignment tabs formed into the edge. so you need to be sure the holes in the slides go towards the air filter side of the carbs.

Money is in the mail, I guess they'll be here next week if I'm lucky. I'm not taking any trips out of the neighborhood on this bike until the new diaphragms come in, but I'll keep chugging along on the other stuff while I'm waiting. Thanks to the weather today, I won't be working on her until tomorrow.

Sunday was interesting. I took her out for a short adventure ride around the neighborhood. About 5 miles into it, I turned the headlight on. Boom, blown fuse. Since I'm not a complete idiot and learn from past mistakes, I pulled a 15 amp fuse out of the tool holder, replace the blown fuse, and took off again. At this point I'm a mile or so from home, so I head back, noticing the power isn't there and the bike is sputtering. Nice, the repair to the diaphragms is coming undone. I got a thumbs up from a guy passing me in a pickup truck, which was nice. I got her home and shut every thing down. A few hours later, I took the right hand controls apart to see if there was anything wrong there that might have popped my fuse, but it looked like it was brand new, so now I need to figure out where the short is in the wiring.

New diaphragms came last night, so into the carbs they went. Took her for a spin around the neighborhood and she's still sputtering at 5500. I had to ride bitch last night with the wife on her Spyder to help her fill it up since she forgot how to do that. I came back, started the bike up and tried the head light again. Pop goes the fuse, so the key came out of the ignition and I headed inside. I need to pick up another pack of 15 amp fuses since I can't find the extras and that was the last 15 amp fuse I had on hand.

its running rich at 5500 slides are moving upwards and the secondaries are kicking in strong. PJ can help w that problem.

I haven't worked on these carbs so it will run rich as slide lifts
I'm having back surgery tomorrow morning (got to be at Orlando Medical Center by 5:00am :( )
No idea when I'll be able to help

The problem is all the jets flowing fuel at the same time, around 4,500~7,000 rpm it's just too rich to run properly, A/F ratio is probably around 8:1 instead of 12~13:1 (max power mixture)

So I'm not getting enough air through with the Uni pods for this to run correctly? Smaller jets then? Or should I mess with the fuel mixture screw? I don't want to bug you when you're getting ready for surgery.

It isn't possible to 'jet out' the problem (but modifying carbs and selling starter/tach plugs is my only income so I can't tell you what to do)

I make a bit of extra cash selling carbs on the side, so I'm pretty sure you need new carbs. ;D

Seriously, though, have PJ mod the carbs. It's your best bet short of buying new ones.

Let me know when you're out of the hospital and I'll send you my carbs. Do you need the air filters to go with?

My wife thinks it ill be good for me to work on small stuff, carbs are less thn 5lbs, (my weight limit for next 3 months)
