Very cool. I know the deals are out there. Just have to be patient and persistent.
Got some more done. cut the rib on the back bone to make it flat and stronger
DSC_0461.jpg

Welded the rib and ground it back flat (almost flat still raised some) welded tabs for electronics (KISS ) not fancy but it works
I off set the hole for the rectifier to allow room for the wires. Then remembered that I didn't need to because I'm using the radio shack one. Oh well.

Here is everything except the fuse panel. It will be mounted behind the rectifier on the rib. I need to purchase a little more flat stock to make its tab

Got the pipes painted, and I'm real pleased. They will be wrapped in bronze with about 6" of the tip sticking out. Should look kick ass.
Very please with how tough the paint is. after first coat, let them sit for two days. Hit with 400 and painted again. With just one fresh coat it was pretty tough to sand. ;D

I'm considering a cream stripe down the middle of the tank. It would continue down the back of the seat. most of the stripe on the tank would be covered up by the pad. I'm not sure about the wheels. The rims will stay chrome but my spokes suck (rusty). They need painted so I may paint the spokes and hubs like JRK style with the epoxy. Not sure if I'll do this with cream or shiney black. If I use the cream, I'll use it sparingly in other places like maybe shifter linkage etc...??? Any iinput would be appreciated.
This is the point I dont like. I love to fab, the finish is ok. Hate to wire. Troy

cream wheels man! do it looks insane... there is this guy on the HD site that rocked his out... check this out... tell me that is not just AWESOME!!!! ever since i saw it i wanted to do cream wheels!

It might be more of a tan. I think this wrap might make the cream stand out. Anyhow, here it is. It's a shade darker than in the photo

That does look sick as hell! It would take some work to reproduce two colors on the wheels. You'd have to tape off the spokes twice (the niples and rims first then spokes if I'm thinking right. Does look bad as hell. I'd love to do it.

i had that same wrap we used on my brothers chop... since then Martin brothers custom made us some new shields... but it looks awesome on the ride... i say go for it!

what i would do.... i would shoot the WHOLE wheel white... then just tape off the rim a week later and shoot the spokes black... easy. 1 tape job

Yeah, I thought I saw that color on one of those rides. Couldn't remember which one. Man I really like that bike. Pretty sure I'm gonna use it as it will cover up the welds I did. Besides I already cut of the mount tabs for the heat shields.

Yeah, that would work. Right now its done!!!I love it. How you feeling about the cream stripe and using cream on shifters and linkage? I'm just bad when it comes to this part.

dude that is my favorite part! post a pic of the bike for me to look at... the linkage would work but the shift peg/pegs would wear off and need recoated ever few weeks... post a pic of the bike lets find some cool accents... one thing i would DEF do is run a black wheel strip on the rim after it is painted white, super cheap (cost like 7 bucs for the pre cut decal) an would look insane! I have a red one on my Harley with a few red accents really ties it all together

I painted my bike cream and used the bronze wrap as well. It kinda browns-out with heat, but looks really cool. Here is the pic. Ignore the seat. I'm going to fab up one of my special aluminum seats as soon as the RD400 project is complete;

In one aspect I'm a ways off from finishing, but I can get alot of this smaller stuff done while I'm working bigger stuff. I'm just to the point of taking the thing apart but it might be a good time to catch it before it's in pieces. I really like the stripe idea. I'll put the tank and seat back on and grab afew photos. BTW, I'm using the stock pegs, so I'll be standing on rubber. Was planning on clear or black on the shifter and linkage anyway.

Thanks for the info on the battery. I'm all over it. Anyhow, I love that bike. I've drooled all over my keyboard ever since I first saw it. I really like the paint scheme. It's been my inspiration. I got my shifter idea from looking at this one. Not as nice but hopefully it will be functional. Been to the web site too. Very, Very nice!!!

Finished the shifter linkage today. Made my own yoke and welded it to the linkage rod (pretty basic stuff). Cut this from flat stock.
DSC_0497.jpg

Then welded it together to get this
DSC_0506.jpg

I also cut down the previous shifter lever to make it shorter. Then made a new mount for the linkage at the top. I felt the old one was a little too big and now I think it fits the bike better.
Has some nice angles. Don't have the brass washers yet, but it works real nice. Stamp it done. (May add another foot peg later) Except for sand polish etc...

Ok, this is where I need some help. Wrapped the pipes and stuck them back on for mock up. I need to figure out the rest of the paint scheme. So here are a few photos. I have to tell ya that I'm really digging the Shiney Black and Chrome. I was planning on doing the Hubs and spokes in gloss black. Dust covers shiney chrome/aluminum. Rims??? The tank will have factory rubber Knee pads but I 'm really liking the all black tank and tail. Not sure what to do with shifter and linkage. Thinking about Chrome powder for those but would depend on cost. They are not that fancy but I made them and they are a little different. Shiney chrome might top top them off.
Any way here are the photos. (I did get a hard on while mounting those pipes. I'm real happy with them ;D) Don't look at the wires. This is just mock up. But I'm thinking of leaving the motor as is and doing the wheels/spokes??? Any ideas?????

Wrap turned out real nice. This photo captures the color pretty good (might be a shade darker than the pic shows). Plan to spray with silicone to help seal the color and block dirt
