small CL 360 project

Yeah, I love welding. I've only welded with a little Lincoln box. Came from my father. In the 1970s he worked in a foundary and they were about to cut his job. He bought this welder and taught himself to weld. They moved him to a welding position and he worked there forever. He gave me the welder about 15 years ago and I've welded with it eversince. I weld just about anything with it. I think it has good carma, lol.
The dog is a Dane (Good eye). She is a rescue. Lived in a crate for her first 3 years. We got her about Thanksgiving this year. We have two others. One was a rescue about 6 years ago. The other is a Harliquin and he is a 3 year old. all are great dogs and seem pretty happy here on the farm. Troy
 
Yeah, they are great dogs. I had a fawn one for 8 1/2 years (since a pup) but he passed away three years ago. Love to get another but two small kids won't allow me the time to get one now. Hopefully in a few years.
 
Had to pick up feed today at Tractor supply and found a stop light for the bike. It's really a marker light but I hooked it up and it is pretty bright. I've been looking for a while and I wasn't too sure what I was going to use. If it was to go in the tail it needed to be fairly small . It had to mount flush in the tails tight curve and it couldn't be too deep because it might interfere with the battery. Five bucks and problem solved. I knew right away that this was the one for my little bike. I'll probably have to add a running/marker light but I'll worry about that later.
Hole saw was a little too small so I had to fine tune the hole with a drill and drum sander. By the way, the flash on the camera and other lights, made some funny reflections on the gel coat. The seat is not cracked or scratched.

I also hammered the ends of the frame to make the gap between the frame and the grab bar a little tighter. It made welding it much easier, but I'll have to finish welding when the frame has been stripped. The grab bar has been welded in the bottom photo.

Sorry to hear about your fawn dane. Sounds like he had a good life though. Eight and a half years is pretty good for a dane. Once your kids are a little older maybe you'll have more time. How old are your kids?

Kids are five and three now and keep me pretty busy. Hopefully when they are both in school.
 
light looks good... it is a duel fillament right? if not how are you going to run your running lights back there?... man that tank looks good like that, you should clear it with like 6 coats of clear to give it some depth and call it done!
 
Thanks guys. I really like the light too. It is a single fillament deal :(. I just couldn't help myself because the light looks so sexy. I have a couple of ideas though. It's not a double fillament or bunch of LEDs, So I think I can work with it. I'm going to look for a new socket for a double fillament bulb. If I can't come up with a new socket I might drill it and add a single led light. I want there to be a good difference in the brake light and the running lights so I would start with one LED and keep adding until I get the right ratio.
The other option would be to add two small lights just under the frame on fabricated brackets. Something like this http://autolumination.com/images/auto_bulbs/screw1.jpg (it lights up red) I'm not sure. I'm jsut tossing ideas around.
The tank has some pits and a couple dents that I'll have to smooth out, otherwise I think I would take your advice because I like the shine too! Cant wait to get the tank mounted, electronics moved (battery box etc...) so than I can strip this thing down and get to work.
 
i order from autoalum all the time! great stuff... man just make sure you have a bright running light! sucks to be coming up on somone and you can not see them there... i just redid my brothers chopper cause you could not see it for nothing from the back! when we did it the first time it was just too look cool... after a few days of riding we had to change it. that 1 LED will not cut it... i would rock at least 3 of the 5mm LEDS in there or 10 mm if you can fit them...

we had to change his, his chop is huge and he was getting run up on by cars...

man i can wip something up for you no problem when i get home... i can set it up and drop it in the mail, i have like a billion 5mm red and the 12v resisters for them... ill solder then up so you have a bit of room to move them around and you can possition them... the way i would do it is this.

remove the cap (lense) drill 3 holes around the light
use these to secure it

you just push them in the hole then slide the LED from the back and it locks it in place... i can solder this all up and send it out to you, ... main thing is to get them to project all over the lens and that will create plenty of light for you.

ha ha ha ha man i am not going to charge you to wire up some LED's real fast for you... come on now, ill try and knock it out tonight and get them in the mail for you tomorrow. (just got to find my red LED's!)

ahh man, i am all about pay it forward! people on here and all over the place hook me up, i try to do the same for others... hell one of the main reason we work on these older bikes is we are not BALLING wiht money... (hell even if i was i would still be turning the wrenches on the old bikes) but anywhere i can try to save someone a buck! why not!

I couldn't agree more. As you all know Joe is all over this board offering anything he can. Whether it be knowledge, or a service or even parts out of his own stash. One problem JRK, I can't seem to get the lens off this light. It looks to be glued on and there is no way to get to the glue. I'll have to get a close up photo. Anyway, If I can't get the lens off, can those LEDs come through from the back? What I'm thinking is to drill the hole large enough for the LED without a retainer, and just epoxy or hot glue it in place. Let me know what you think.
