Squirley's Kawi H1 build thread

Thanks guys!

Drewski,

I have been following your progress over on Kawi2strokes, cant wait for some video footage once you get your shock worked out.
What did you coat your pipes in? I have two sets of these pipes so the set you see on my bike currently will be painted black but I am debating whether to leave the other set raw or chrome them...Yours look like they are keeping a good finish...

Dont really know what tank it is, I bought it all busted up from ebay. My best guess would be a Gus Kahn tank made for a british bike like a BSA...

Hey Squirley!
My pipes are "raw" steel. They don't always look really clean, but I like 'em that way!
The only thing on 'em is acrylic floor finish. Just slop it on and away ya go! It needs to be done a couple of times per season depending on the amount of riding you do!

Made some small progress today...made some mounts for the silencers. I didn't want to weld on the bolt flange ring directly onto the chamber, just in case I want to take them off and go deaf later...

Stared with a machined plate and half a tube clamp

Welded them together and milled in some pockets to allow cap screws for mounting silencers

Finished product with bolt on side

That's all for today, thanks for following

Moving on, I cut and glued some foam onto the seat and shaped it to my desired look then had it upholstered at a local shop. Heres some pics.

I had a request for some tail pics. Here is what it looks like...The flate plate in the back is where the tail light mounts giving a more finished and closed appearance. The under seat belly pan is not quite finished yet, still need to finish trimming then polish it out.

Thanks

Thanks... piece by piece.

What do you guys think about the silencers. My initial plan was to not make them parallel with one another, but now I am having my doubts...Opinions?

I like them out of parallel. The bike looks really great, by the way.

I like parallel pipes, but yours look cool too! :D

Honestly, with your bike you can't go wrong! 8)

I vote parallel too. The rest of the bike looks so symmetrical it almost seems like the pipes have to be parallel.

Oh, and a tip before the inevitable happens. I have that Vrod headlight on one of my bikes too. After some spirited riding(which I imagine youll be doing on this girl) the low beam shroud in your headlight may break free and dance around in the housing. Once that happens its a mfr to get back in place. After cursing I managed to get it back in the slot its mounted in. I then drilled at a 45 degree angle slowly from the back of the headlight through the metal tab that the shroud uses as a mount. I then put a small self tapping screw through it to pin it in place in the plastic along with a dab of silicon to seal the screw in place. No one will ever see the screw and it will keep that shroud from falling off.

Not a lot to update in the last month, but that how these things go...
After procrastinating for a long time on this, I finally made exhaust hanger brackets for the chambers. Got two done and on more to go.
Unfortunately, these chambers didn't turn out as well as planned so I went ahead and coated them black, the next set will be chromed when finished.
