Squirley's Kawi H1 build thread

Dude, That bike looks awesome!

What's the mini rollers/ dyno-ish things in the one pic?

Holy shitballs this thing is pretty. Not really my thing (unlike the 550) but damn I like the look of it.

Spectacular build!! Would be interested in the specs of your new geometry with mono shock and modern front forks. It looks dead on right to the eye, much like a modern 600 sport bike. Two strokes really seem to respond to a clean minimalist build look but yours is truly amazing. Engine wise, are you going to dyno that beast?

Great piece on KR's Indy Miler. I got to see him ride the reproduction in 2009 at Indy, he really hit it hard and ran it to the wall. At one point the crowd went silent when he ran it in so fast and deep that it looked like game over. His solution was to open the throttle and just ride it out, on it's side all hung out up by the wall, truly awesome. Don't know whose garage you pictured with the Roberts miler but right next to it is the Steve Baker TZ750 miler #32 in Yamaha Motor Canada colors (his sponsor for almost his entire racing career). I think Yamaha had 4 bikes made, Stevie's, Kenny's, Randy's and one other but none were really fully developed as the AMA banned em pretty early on.

Thanks guys for the kind words!

Reds, I helped start a robotics company a few years ago and those rollers are used to run simulations with our robots. If anyone caught 60 minutes this week, you may have seen the robot.

Kemp, thanks for the information on the other TZ, i had no idea about its history. Even though Kenny is getting up there in age, the size of his....courage.... hasn't changed!

Looks like someone was inspired by the 80's movie Short Circuit. "Johnny5 ALIVE!" haha!

Lately I've been building the chassis' for a major heavily funded robotics company doing prototypes for the US military. Crazy stuff!

What materials are you using?

Haha, Johny 5 was a favorite!

This was an early prototype so most of the materials are aluminum. Our new run has a lot of composite to try and get the weight factor down.
Are you able to tell what company you are building chassis' for?

Guys, I need some help figuring out a choke setup....
The original was a bar mounted swing lever that divided from one pull to the three carbs. Does anyone have a good idea how/where to set up a new choke? Theres no room on the clip ons to put the original. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jens

Considering your top notch fabricating and machining skills why not mount the lever to the top triple, sort of Mick Doohan style as he did with rear brake. You could machine a cool billet post to affix to the triple and the lever would mount to it just like it did on the handlebar.

Kemp, I just did a quick search on the setup you suggested and it sounds doable. However, I should have mentioned that I would really like to get the choke mounted somewhere on the frame (or lower down) to alleviated the front end from misc cables and clutter...

Not sure if you have worked on the stock carbs much but I found them a pita to work with when jetting. Maybe consider dumping the stock carbs for some 34mm flat or round slides with the choke plunger right on the carb body...

Walms,

The carbs are 34mm flats, I am just trying to find a way to pull all three chokes at once. I may just use three plunger chokes and bolt them all to a solid pull rod that spans the three carbs

Jens

Sorry Jens, I didn't even go back to your pics to check that.
I hear you on having a plate or rod to activate all 3... I've resorted to only using the left and right choke as it is difficult to reach the center choke plunger with gloves on.
With my bike, that is all that is required to get it running though and I shut the 2 chokes almost immediately.

Do ya need to choke all three carbs. my rd with flat slides will start with one carb choked the other cylinder takes a second but it comes right to life its not a big deal. i gotta let the motor warm up regardless. i ve never worked on a kaw triple but dont ya gotta jet the center barrel fat to keep the temp. down anyway. to ckoke the cylinder on top of that may foul your plug. like i said ive never worked on a kaw triple.

You know, I couldn't tell ya as this is my first triple... :o
All i know is that it came with a triple choke setup so I am attempting to duplicate haha.

Kool im sure it will turn out my old gt380 had a triple cable thing that seemed to work well

Just read the whole build, Nice work squirley! Inspiring for my build.
I got to have a set of those air filters for mine, Where did you get them?
