Hey John, Looks like a great start (here's hoping it does start) she will teach you plenty. I really like those wheels and the black brake housing. Like most late 70's early 80's Japa's everything is little bit to big but really easy to slim down, there's plenty of cheap parts on the net. What...
Great post, looks like a good day out. Hows the dude in a white woolen sweater on the TT, he was obviously not planning on being behind to many riders! Thanks for a great post Kawa.
Re: Woody's 1972 CL350 Brat-tracker tweed jacket bike
Bratracker, I like the concept a lot! A score indeed I'll be watching this unfold for sure. Keep posting Woody.
Re: '78 XS650 tracker, Motor locked while trying to start.
Man... you'll be laughing your head off about that in a few months as you blast down the highway. I dug a hole in my lawn to bury my bike in..... until I realized I had it 180 out of phase. This is why we do this, forget the time and...
Welcome, which ever way you take it, its going to be a beautiful thing. You can't buy a bike with family history like that and its very cool that you have the opportunity to rebuild such a shit hot bike. Good luck and keep us updated.
ps Rat, that barn makes my mouth water every time I see it...
Kia Ora mate, Great start looks like you know where you're heading. If you're short on funds check out some of the seat builds in here, there's some good pans being made for skateboard decks that would suit your bike. Troybuilt has done one and I think Mike did one on an XS. Good luck and keep...
Re: Not only my first etc etc! [SHE RUNS!!!! VIDEO!!]
Sweet bro.... That 180 shit had me pulling my hair out on my bike too but once she fired up all was forgiven. Now comes the hard part! TAKE YOUR TIME with the rest of the build, remember the last thing you did before you started trying to...
Re: Not only my first etc etc! [TRYING TO GET HER RUNNING, HELP!!!]
Hi Boom, If you haven't already, get hold of a gauge to check your compression or at least put your finger over the plug hole and if it doesn't push your finger off check the engine is in the right phase. I had the same...
Nice work Mike, You inspired me to take my GS for a squirt..... If I have any advice for you it would be keep the air box carby set up stock (looks you have anyway) I'm having a nightmare tuning due to pods and re-jetting (or PO's lack of). But when they're running right they sure are fun bikes...
Oh yeah.... if you don't get it right that thing will send you into orbit. DEUS a trendy chop shop over here had a go at a Mexican drug runner style DR650 but with out changing the frame it just looked like a fancy paint job on a stock bike(I'll see if I can find a picture). What you are doing...
My fork boots turned up yesterday, I like them. I played around with the wiring and got her turning over without spark or carbs. I moved the ignition, Started shortening the loom and sorting out its path, slowly I'm getting there.
DR 650 was my first road legal bike way back when, what a bitch to kick over, great fun tough. That thing will thump and if you get it right with the weight, stick like shit... Good luck and keep going!
