And she'll be gone this afternoon. Did a straight trade for a 2000 Triumph Thunderbird with 8k miles that needs some minor cleaning and carb work - leaking gas out the overflow. I needed another project in the living room anyway ;D
Re: '73 CB250 - 'Rustic Racer' conversion.
Also the numbers on a racing bike have to be in a place that is clearly visible. In the center of the bike they would be obscured by the rider's legs so that's not race legal.
I've got a pair of vert motor CB175 headers that were cut off at the muffler. You can have them for $14 + shipping from NY if you want, I just want a week worth of gas out of them :P
She's an old beast but runs well and goes like stink. About 35k on the odo. Looking to trade for a first gen EX250 or Ninja 500 to use for track days. Maybe a Savage/Shadow/Vulcan to bob. Or an older big bore 2-stroke enduro a'la Kawasaki Bighorn 350. Anything fun and interesting as long as it...
I would much rather have something lighter like a Ninja 500/FZR 400 but budget is limited so I figured I'd see if I could work with what I have. I love the GPz - it looks awesome and has that 80s muscle bike machismo - but I think I may end up selling it or doing a trade for an old Ninja 250/500...
So I've been looking at trackday/race prepped Ninja 250/500s and FZR400s and I realized I have a perfectly good GPz sitting in the garage ;D
Anyone ever race prep one of these beasts and have tips on where to drop weight, how to tune the suspension, etc? My plan would be to keep the motor...
Re: '73 CB250
Seat's looking good. That crack in the intake manifold was probably leaning out the mixture pretty badly and would partially explain why the revs don't drop when you let off the throttle. I had the same issue with my GPz and ended up caulking it too until I could get a replacement :P
Re: '73 CB250
Setting the float level is a pretty important part of the carb tuning. If you're still getting overflow that means your gas level in the carbs is too high so you'll be running rich, which is consistent with the black, sooty plug. It could be that the floats are getting hung up on...
Re: '73 CB250
When I first got my 175 I had to play with just about everything to get it running right. Firstly the floats were off so bad the gas would just pour out of the overflows, fixed that then dropped the needles a notch which helped lean it out a bit. Also the throttle cables had been...
Re: '73 CB250
I'd check the condition of the plugs to see whether you're rich or lean on that side then adjust the carbs accordingly. And verify the float levels are ok as well.
Hey man,
This is an awesome little bike. I swear I've seen photos of it around with a different (K3?) tank with checkers on it. You build your own belly pan or find one that fits somewhere?
Will do. I've never built a race-bike before so this is new to me but I think I should be able to find most of the information I need to get it legal :P
They are theoretically going on a CB175. Motor and pipes are stock for now but will eventually have a little porting done and maybe a size up on the intake valves. It doesn't look like there are any spigots for oil on the carbs.
I have an old set of Mikuni VM24-26 carbs which came off a Yamaha YDS-3C (I believe). The YDS had an automix oil system and the carb bodies don't have any 2-stroke specific oil holes, so the bodies should be the same as a 4-stroke carb. I'm thinking switching to a bleed type needle jet should...
I did a similar DIY deal on my stamped frame CB175. Ended up using some scrap furnace duct aluminum and bent it into an airbox shape. The filter is a dirtbike foam filter cut to shape and sealed with hot glue and caulk. It works a ton better than the old clogged individual airboxes and doesn't...
Got her back on the road for the first time since the tear down. Feels good but really needs a new clutch cable and a couple of inches cut off the brake cable. Now to start drilling everything for safety wire.

The headers were starting to rust again so I hit them with some flat black. My other set of pipes came in off ebay and they are barely rusty but I think I prefer the black anyway :P
Now just waiting on a chain and I can do some test rides!
