using the bars upside-down rarely gives the correct riding position. thats the main argument with clubmans vs clipons. clipons offer a much greater ability to tweak your riding position so that you can ride for longer than 20 minutes (provided you have rearsets).

I was under the assumption that you were using the upsidedown bars in the final product
and that low posture will not work for me.

I need to sit up more, I have risers on the KLR, and a higher seat to stretch me out more.

i can't crouch down like a sport bike, so those bars or clipons are out of the question for me.

drag bars will look ok still, not right, but ok

and the very mild rearsets i have on the 920 kill my knees, so this will be a "standard/cafe" i suppose lol

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Had to cut up the seat pan a little to make it fit flush, and sit on the frame better.

I will fiberglass the lip back on.

not much else to show, just my little bit of progress, it has slowed down a bit due to school

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Just a little bit of progress, I picked up a tank at the swap meet last weekend, worked on it a bit over the week.
it still looks like crap, for whatever reason, it just will not look nice on the tank like it did on the side cover and the headlight.

and since I had to move them around, I figured I would take some pics of the fleet.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

now that I have color on the tank, I feel bad, she is sitting outside under a cover in the rain :(

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

I like that colour, looks good. You may want to either try clip on bars with rear sets, with stock pegs, either clubmans or clip ons will bend you in ways no human should. That or higher bars like, euro bars, would work well with your bike.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks! I am going to do euro or drag bars, because I just can't bend my knees back to use rear sets I wish I could that would be awesome.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a blue CB550F in 1977, still got it

very nice. I wish mine had had one owner....that actually took care of it...:(

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to remove sprocket retaining circlip/washer to get cush drive off hub.
Pins are probably rusted into cush drive bushings?

Nice work Jason. Let me know when you are rolling up to the city. You should roll with the urban assault crew we've got together. Hood ratz and cafes run the ghetto.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

lol, sounds good man, I am one step closer, got a new exhaust on the way!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... UPDATE.....COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!

well, got an exhaust, it's not really what I want, but the only economically feasible thing to purchase (still cost more than the bike did!!!)

and got it mounted

the bike is in my dining room right now, I plan on trimming down the wiring harness to only keep what i need, and I am working on getting an older ninja front end on it for good brakes and a little bit beefier forks, and the ninja swingarm and rear wheel with disk brake.

it should be able to stop well at least!!

also got the carbs on, and working on other stuff.....just took a break to type this :)

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... Re-assembly 3/5

Wow, I actually worked on this thing quite a bit today, Carbs mounted, exhaust mounted, electric panel mounted, some wires run, and the coils mounted.... I am proud of myself.

After many months of not touching it....it's getting pretty close to running again!!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... Re-assembly 3/5

going to pick this up in a couple hours.!!!!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I test fit the front end today....man it's a pain when the exhaust goes under the frame!

it's a 2000 SV 650 Front end with brakes and everything. dual pot tokicos!

not sure how much more I am going to update....it appears it's just here for me anyway

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I dig modern forks/brakes on classic bikes, Just bitchen. What are your plans for a wheel combo...using a 3 spoke sportbike rear to go along with the SV front ? forgive me if you have already said in a previous post...I didnt look too far back sorry.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

well, I have this nifty '86 Ninja swingarm that fits almost perfectly...then i could use the rear 3 spoke wheel from a ninja, and the disc, as it uses a 530 chain also. though the ninja wheel is a 16" split 3 spoke and the SV wheel is a 17" solid 3 spoke....it shouldnt look too bad.
I had the opportunity to buy the rear SV wheel also, but now sure how well it will work in the ninja swingarm, it's way bigger

i am working on procuring a ninja wheel and brake setup....going is slow with no job though!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I'm not workin right now either, feel your pain. Only way I've been getting anything done on mine is from selling/trading all my extra parts from past/present/future builds LOL.

I'm in the same boat wheel wise as well, I've been looking for a Katana 600/750 rear as anything wider than 4.5" wont go in my swingarm. I got access to four or five wheels, but they are all 5.5-6" wide...no worky for me.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe... More mods.....but great brakes!

I'm hoping some of my take offs will get a few bucks...
